The Unreliable Transfer Rumours Discussion Thread (Part 4)

I think that you could say the same thing about Salah his reactions to being subbed were a lot more irreverent to the coaches who dared to do. (There will be fire if I speak).
If Barcola scores even close to as many goals as Salah I will put up with his occasional tantrum.

I don“t think Madrid does have the best players.

For me Klopp“s team had better players in every position except midfield and the bench than Pep“s team.

Obviously managers have an impact (not least in managing of people as Klopp could) but I think the tactical side gets way overfocused now. Of course tactics have some impact but I think my original post explained my view on them vs the player.

Go on…

International teams don’t have the time to train the tactics as much as clubs do.

Is that why Andorra is worse than Spain? all busy working in the supermarket and post office rather than doing their tactics.

Id argue more that talent is dispersed globally rather than in for example just the premier league where money attracts the best.

The real obvious counter to your counter is that all pro international teams would be around the same quality as they more or less get the same time to train tactics.

Aye, and while that has always been the case, it is even more pronounced these days due to how tactically sophisticated the club game has become leaving top players largely incapable of performing outside of a well drilled and effective tactical approach.

Allusions to Shankly is great, but it is an entirely different game compared to the 90s now let alone the 60s

Peps tactics wouldn’t have worked with the Klopp team, all about tactics, simple!

You can’t see the wood for the trees!

Which tactics specifically?

Inverting the full back?

Pep was all about controlled football, you may have heard of it tiki-taka, where Jurgen was all about intensity on and off the ball, quick fast incisive football.

And we didn’t win the Premier league with an inverted fullback under Klopp!

We didn“t win a premier league most years without an inverted fullback either.

So what you are saying is that basically Man City won a lot more premier leagues than us because Pep was better tactically than Klopp. Interesting…

No what I said is that Pep wouldn’t have done as well with the players Jurgen had, as Jurgen didn’t have Pep’s cheque book, and that Jurgens coaching and tactics got the best out of the players.

Plus on many occasions City were helped by many favourable refereeing decisions and cost us at least 2 titles.

Pep might have. He did well at every club, always with the best players.

Who knows.

Which top players cant perform outside of a well drilled tactical approach?

Where is the proof of that?

Last thing, do you think any coach could have done as well as Pep at City, others tried and were successful but not to his extent.

Jurgen maybe.

Why was Pep so successful?

Because he is an exceptional tactical coach, see tactics pop up again!

Quite possibly they could, or not.

There“s a hell of a lot more to management than tactics. You“ve decided it“s purely because of magic tactics.

Lets see him go do it at Crewe or Grimsby Town anyway.

No I haven’t, it was you said that tactics is over rated and it is all about having the best players.

So don’t change around the focus of what the discussion was, to try and prove a point.

BTW Pep would improve both those teams!

Actually you can go back and see I didnt say it“s ALL ABOUT having the best players.

I said tactics are over emphasised and usually the best 11 wins. Youve interpreted that as tactics are not at all important.

So maybe take your own advice.

We still have a decent transfer kitty even without sales. There were some reports that we had £250m available through the clubs credit facility.

A good chunk of cash that.

Honestly we could get 4 or 5 very good players for that. Man Utd just signed Ederson for like 35 mil. He“d do for us probably.

Whether it“s enough for two wingers, CM, DM, CB and RB, I don“t know.

So why has Iraola overperformed with a club that with all intents and purposes should finish 18th and ended up in 6th place, in Europe and now we have decided he is good enough for us.

When they could have got me for next to nothing as manager and with my tactical knowledge?

Remember Grimsby beat Man U this year who had the better players?

Also going back to Man U, hate doing so, look how the change of coach/manager and tactics improved them!

When they could have got me for next to nothing as manager and with my tactical knowledge :face_with_tongue:
