You say that yet I didn’t see you mount such a defence when Salah was dropped and people were blaming him for our attacking woes….which since have been disproven as we scored more and win more with Salah on the pitch.
None of which has anything to do with the constant bashing of Gakpo for being one of the many players who had a down season last time around and who we’d hope the manager can get him back to playing his best.
Salah meanwhile won’t be here so what does he matter.
@Mascot said he doesn’t like players getting scapegoated. So I pointed out that Salah also got scapegoated but he didn’t seem to mind that. That’s where it started.
I agree that it’s not Gakpo’s fault that he isn’t as good as Diaz but people can’t help but compare their last seasons, given they played more or less the same position at Liverpool. I know it’s not fair because Gakpo is playing in a dysfunctional team while Diaz is in a high-flying outfit.
Gakpo would also look much better if he was playing at Bayern.
No, he was talking about Gakpo. Then for some reason you’ve brought Salah into the conversation despite the fact he won’t be here next season. It’s an entirely pointless diversion.
He said he doesn’t like ANY player getting scapegoated.
Salah was getting scapegoated WHILE he was still a Liverpool player. The only “pointless diversion” is you jumping in when you weren’t part of the conversation.
Schlotterbeck would be my option there anyhow, I do think we need to consider looking at VVD replacements and I don’t think we have an obvious version and I believe he has played in both CB positions so would allow a transition of sorts as I think Leoni and Jaquet if they are deemed our options play the other side to VVD. Then again perhaps these lads we got the academy are looked as the long term options.
We need another CB certainly, as far as I’m concerned. Even if van Dijk and Jacquet are an elite partnership having them backed up by Gomez and Leoni is just miles away from good enough.
Gakpo was poor last season, and it was said by many. So was MacAllister, so were many of our players. And as supporters we get frustrated and say it, thats fair?
There isn’t a rule that we can criticise one and not do the same with another.
Salah was so much more important to the club than Gakpo can even hope to be, yet there weren’t many jumping in when he was being pilloried?
I think thats a fair point @koptician was making.
