I wouldn’t say Grav has a low work rate!
He just had the wrong messages from his coach last year and an awful lot of space to cover, as he was between defence, midfield and then forward.

Slotball is fundamentally not a high intensity system, and so his stats under Klopp will be a lot more relevant.
You need a Jordan Henderson-type midfielder to play with Wharton. In fact, a similar example is the Gerrard-Henderson duo in 2013/2014.
Whilst not wanting to go off topic by posting a transfer rumour from an unreliable source this one I could get behind:
So basically another Gravenberch
Don’t see this happening at all.
Is that a fair comparison? That version of Stevie was far removed from prime Stevie. Adam Wharton is far more mobile than Steve of 2014.
He can pass the ball very well, just that Wharton is a better passer, however Scott has other skills which are better than Wharton’s
Szob then!
That’s why I said long-term prospects.
But plenty of big clubs like us play young players all the time. I don’t think it’s sensible, even in an anonymous internet forum, to say anything like this for certain.
i love him as a player, very understated in ability
Yeah it’s an odd deal for sure but I guess I just don’t see the benefit over perhaps sending him on loan last season and then making that assessment this summer. Our loans usually include minimum game time clauses and I’m sure we’d have found suitors. That way he’s still registered to us whereas now, instead of getting whatever pre-season he’ll get after the world cup to impress the new manager, he’ll be heading back to Germany instead.
Then again, you look at Elliott and there’s risk in the loan model too if it’s not done right. I guess only time will tell.

The Elliott deal wasn’t really meant to be a loan though, it was supposed to be workable fudge to allow Villa to sign him permanently without them taking a hit because of the FFP rules, and for us to get him off our wage bill for the season.
We obviously succeeded with the second part, but probably at a cost to his capital value and complicating our summer’s planning for the new season as I think he’s also only got another year left on his contract.
Yeah it was a dreadful piece of business and someone should have been sacked for it
Finally an actual rumour, not a particularly sound one but thank you my fellow sandgrounder for trying to rescue us from the discussion on who to buy.
You play your next best. Same as what happens when your jack of all trades gets injured.
No we don´t. Nobody can both protect the back four AND totally run a game with the ball.
Yeah fair point on the injuries. Also maybe mobility or at least he has quite a laid back style too doyu think?
Also true. We don´t know how Iraola will use them. We´re all expecting him to repliiate Bournemouth with our players but he may not. Maybe he will want Grav to carry the ball a bit like Scott. I hope not, but it´s possible.
Haven´t seen loads of Camara. He does seem like a holding type. Mostly sits and keeps it fairly simple, wins the ball decently well. I think they would be a good pairing, good shout. Tidy and a bit more expansive. Scott to replace Wharton or Camara?
Yeah thats why I don´t want him. I think those players are ten a penny.
He is actually a good player. Tackles well, can carry the ball and get the odd goal, but for me your ball playing midfielder HAS to have a good passing game. It´s not just technical passing, but pass choice, moving it quickly and splitting the lines, one and two touch.
Part of me wonders if he could be a good DM as he does tackle well and is tidy, but charging up the pitch is dubious.
Wharton, as Camara has better defensive numbers.
Yeah. I just think then your midfield becomes quite limited to running around.
I know you said above that Scott has good passing but I don´t think he does. It´s often not quite pinpoint into where it needs to be to keep the attacker´s momentum and his passing game in terms of choice and opening things up is a bit meh.
Basically like what we have already with Dom and Grav.
How much of Wharton, Scott etc have you watched, or is it just highlights and youtube videos?
Most of mine is watching other YouTube videos, with suuposed experts analyzing them!
Wharton a lot because he´s one of the few midfielders worth watching, Scott some but less, Camara even less.
I actually think your Camara suggestion could be a great shout from what I have seen. Looks a tidy, solid, holding player who does his role well.
