So you have watched lots of Crystal Palace’s games, because you mentioned in a thread that you didn’t watch many games apart from Liverpools?
Seeing highlight videos don’t tell you the full story, they only give you a feel of the potential technical skill they have.
Yeah I watched a fair few.
I used to watch every main European league, even the Dutch league and sometimes Portugal.
I didn’t put much weight on reports that Grav can’t pass until I just observed him at Anfield. I couldn’t believe how limited his passing is!
I think compilation of the matches are much better than highlight videos. You can see much better positions they take up and decision making.
At this level, the conversation about passing is not really one of if the player has the technique to kick it where it needs to go. It’s more one of how the player reads the game to see the pass before they get the ball and get to the space with the body position they need to be able to make that pass. Someone like Wharton may not look like they are putting a lot of work, but that is because players like him put in the work before he even gets the ball so that the simple looking pass he makes is even available. However, the thing with Grav is sometimes he does just genuinely kick it in the wrong direction. Like he’s hit a golf ball with the heel of the club rather than flush on the face and it flies off to the left
Saw a rumour that Brighton have bid 30 mil to Spurs for Luka Vuskovic.
Koptician mentioned him recently. Very shrewd of Brighton potentially.
Yeah good point. Most players can pass but it’s about the choice and the timing and how you open things up, work the angles, draw players out etc.
I think a lot of it is sloppiness too with Grav. Maybe it’s a mentality thing.
I am sure he can make these passes but he’s too frantic in the moment.
As highly rated as he is, with the addition of Leoni and Jacquet I would stunned if we were still in the market for this sort of profile of CB. I think we need another one, but if we do that I imagine it will be someone older with a couple of years more experience at the top level. Basically the profile of Van Hecke.
Yep I think you’re right.
3 CBs younger than 20 and then just Van Dijk (and maybe Gomez) is not a place we want to be in.
I do think the Jacquet signing was a bit odd but maybe he’s really really good.
I do’t think we’ll sign a centre back this summer. I think the club will view Van Dijk, Jaquet, Leoni, and Gomez enough, will push the CB question to next year when they’ll be looking to replace Van Dijk (maybe with Quansah).
It’s not what’s do, but I think that’s where we’re at.
James Pearce! There you are, took me all this time to realise it.
Just watched Anfield Index’s daily transfer roundup. Regarding CBs, they cited someone (can’t remember who, maybe Paul Gorst) saying that we potentially want to bring in a senior (ie experienced) CB but only if one is available at a reasonable price.
Worryingly the messaging seems similar for RB - we want one but will not pay over the odds to get one.
It does suggest the attack and midfield are our first priorities this window.
Also the same message about how Geuhi fit in last summer, which didn’t exactly turn out well
Dom is an elite Alex Scott. So is Grav. We don’t need that profile of midfielder unless we sell one of Dom or Grav. We desperately need an elite progressive passer… Wharton. We also need a midfielder who can shield the back 4 but also be good on the ball…a Sangare type maybe. It will be interesting to see if we primarily play a double pivot or a midfield three.
The player I’m convinced we need.
Fuck Youtube and the owner of the video.
Doesn’t fill me with any more confidence about these unusual and slightly convoluted deals.
Mark Goldbridge is claiming that Galatasaray have expressed an interest in buying Big Virg. That’s all he said.
Maybe Virg might be thinking about winding down his career at this point, rather than stay at Anfield for the Iraola Revolution.
Honestly, Im fine with it. I dont want to lose him and definitely wouldnt be pushing him out, but at the start of a new era we really only have room for people who are excited for it.
Why him?
