The Unreliable Transfer Rumours Discussion Thread (Part 4)

He looked a really good player. Obviously we are past the days of clubs buying players solely based on the World Cup, and we will have all the info on Bouaddi that we need, long before this World Cup kicked off. I would definitely be in favour of signing him if we can do it, as there is a lot of interest from some top teams.

He certainly looks the part, but how much money?probably going up by the minute.

For a 18 year old, he already played 5000 minutes over the last 2 seasons, so definitely enough experience in the top flight of the French league and has done very well there. So with all the potential shown and hype, he is not going to be cheap. The world cup will just add to that if he continues that trajectory. Not necessarily mean we need to go for him because I do think in many aspects, he is very similar to Gravenberch.

Yep, he was very impressive against Brazil. Really mature performance. But that’s only 1 game I’ve seen. 9 more to go.

I didn’t see the Morocco game, so 10 more for me.

When you’re his age, some games will be amazing and some drop dead poor. Consistency is only built up over time.

Once you have a bad game in England the wolves come out.

I hope this turns out to be true.

Darwin on a free does provide back up to Isak until Ekitike is back and can cover on the left as well but the more I think about it, the less I’m convinced he has the game intelligence to suit what Iraola wants from both positions. Maybe makes sense if we are moving Gakpo on and want a stop gap signing.

Yeah I’d much rather keep Cody as backup than have Darwin. I suppose, if a crazy large offer was on the table for Cody we could get Darwin for free and use the Cody money to strengthen elsewhere. But I think that’s all very unlikely.

We need to keep Cody, and get a stop gap for Hugo. Makes sense to bring Darwin back if it’s a free. Can come on and cause a bit of chaos where needed. Scored a good few late goals for us also. Will never be a long term option but could sell him on next summer.

Darwin would make sense only if:

  1. Iraola actually rates him
  2. Sign to a short term (1-2 year) contract at reasonable wage

Maybe Iraola wants do an Alan Smith and convert him from a striker to an all action defensive midfielder.

If he’d still been here last season he would probably have started a few games at right back

I actually don’t want us to sell Gakpo but replacing him with a Nunez free transfer could be smart und would make it more likely for us to buy two wide players - which I think should be our highest priority.

Darwin is a fine stopgap solution until Hugo is healthy. I actually think he’d play well under Iraola - a manager who can communicate with him in his native language.

Surely there are better options out there? Like someone who understands the offside rule and who isn’t getting paid megabucks right now and would maybe want more than we are willing to pay him.

I don’t know I’ve seen him touch the ball so far in this first half

And he got subbed at half time but it’s taken me 7 mins of the second half to figure it out

You do make some solid points there.

I’m just impatient, to be honest. And a sucker for a good redemption story.

And worried we’ll go into the season a bit light in the forward positions. So I’m the perfect target here.

No chance of Darwin hitting you with the ball then, at least
