Haven’t read the article but I could imagine it may be difficult to land him in January.
Lots of potential competition for his signature once his contract ends, there will still be question marks over Palace’s ability to source a suitable replacement and they may feel that with just 6 months left on his contract there is little ‘value’ in selling anyway.

After giving this some thought, I think it unlikely LFC will go back for him in January… If we actually did do everything right when attempting to sign him in the summer, to then get told…

I just don’t see John Henry handing over any money to CP for him in January… A case of digging heels in and maybe JH saying…
“Nah You Can Fuck Right Off Yourself. We Either Get Him On A Free, Or Fine, We Will Let Some Other Club Get Him For Free”

Guehi surely has that sign on fee on his mind already.
There was a point in time.. maybe, when Guehi wanted CP to get some financial reward for turning him into the player he has become. After the shenanigans in the summer, you are right, why would he worry about CP any longer
except John Henry probably is only remotely aware of his existance, and certainly wont be making the call whether hes worth the punt in Jan

Wouldn’t be the first time we’ve moved on.
I think the club are quite practical on matters like this. If there is a deal to be done they will do it. After all this wasnt a case where the selling club strung us along but where Palace were looking to sell but got themselves into mess on getting proper replacements lined up and then had to pull out at the last minute to avoid losing their manager as well.
I do wonder though whether loaning them Gomez could have helped the deal go through…

I don’t know who they realistically could have got but I think its understandable how he would be reluctant to swap players like Julio who barely played for Brighton and has not played any of the first 6 games for West Ham for Geuhi.

Hard to see JH sanctioning another bid,which still might crash and burn,unless the club has an understanding with the player.
More likely to move on,if CP didn’t want to play in this window,would they settle for less in Jan?
If he likes Spain now,he might like it better in Jan.

There would presumably have to be greater assurances from Palace on their progress on bringing in another player, or their willingness to sell as soon as the window opens.

Seems a strangely timed article with it only been September/October. This could be adding some truth to the Madrid rumour we know irrespective of any Jan interest its not a goer.
All rumours emanate from agents and selling clubs. If there is a rumour that he wants to go to RM it is most likely coming from one of those sources trying to force a panic purchase.

Not necessarily this could be Joyce dampening expectations of a Jan move because knowingly hes Madrid bound he says nothing unless briefed by the club.

To think that Palace had rejected 70m for him.
Understand Glasner is making palace play good football but that 70m isn’t something they will recoup. And that money to a club like Palace is vital.
Maybe they could have gotten their first choice CB if they were playing in the Europa.
Szoboszlai is our fifth CB, lads.
