Tottenham Hotspur , Liverpool and Aston Villa are among a host of Premier League sides to have sent scouts to watch FC Nantes’ centre-back Tylel Tati, 17. (CaughtOffside)

According to both BILD and journalist Christian Falk, Liverpool are not willing to wait until the summer for a new defensive signing, as previously reported, and will launch a bid for the 6ft 3in Borussia Dortmund star imminently.

Indeed, BILD claims that Liverpool are planning a mid-season assault for Schlotterbeck, whose current deal expires in summer 2027. Better yet, the report says the 22-times capped star is willing to stave off talks over a new deal at the Westfalonstadion owing to that interest from the Reds.

Falk, meanwhile, writing for CF Bayern Insider, says that Liverpool have a bid prepared for the player and will make contact soon with Dortmund over a potential January deal.

Currently rated at around €55m (Ā£47.7m, $64m), Falk goes on to add that the 25-year-old would be ā€˜interested’ in making the move to Anfield, while revealing that Dortmund have offered him an extension, but since the German isn’t happy with the wage on offer, he’s keeping his options open.

A third source, journalist David Lynch, believes Schlotterbeck is considered a much more viable and important target for Liverpool than another strongly-linked alternative in Dayot Upamecano.

ā€œSchlotterbeck makes a lot more sense for Liverpool, and he’s the better player as well. Upamecano’s got mistakes in him,ā€ the reporter told Sports Mole.

Schlotterbeck and Guehi, and all of a sudden the position is looking much stronger. Hopefully that’s what happens.

I like Schlotterbeck and he’d be one of the players to consider, but all these journalists are missing something important. If he makes sense now, how is a potential Virgil replacement more important than actually who plays alongside Virgil? If our plan that Virgil continues to perform until the summer of 2027 works well. For me, it’s the RCB position where we needed an injection of quality and healthy competition. Not saying that it’s not smart to think also about life post-Virgil. But you need to prioritize also. And yeah, Virgil moving to RCB is theoretically possible and doable, but I’ll only believe when I see it. I doubt that’s what our plan is.

Sports Illustrated not up to speed.

Fichajes are way ahead of everybody else though …

Nothing new except that Palace are supposedly willing to sell Guehi in January.

Crystal Palace are planning to sell England defender Marc Guehi in January and Liverpool are no longer the frontrunners to sign the 25-year-old, with Barcelona, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich all interested. (The I paper - subscription required), external

Liverpool and Chelsea were both rebuffed by Everton in the summer after expressing their interest in 23-year-old England centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite. (Mail - subscription required), external

I wonder why we are no longer interested in Guehi? Could it be that we were underwhelmed that he just sucked it up and seemed okay with the deal falling through? Otherwise it can only be the fee surely and perhaps positioning that we won’t pay what Palace are seeking? Maybe it’s a FU and clear message to Palace that we won’t pay a fee after they fucked the deal and we hope to get someone else in Jan and him for free next summer? Slightly strange in that because of his PL experience you’d expect he’d much more readily be able to slot straight in rather than taking much of the rest of the season to come up to speed (like a BL player).

Or behind… probably the latter.

I dont think its worth going by what the Independent says. I dont think they have any particular insight. also as written its not making it clear why we wouldnt be front runners - it could just be the other clubs are believed to be willing to pay more for him than we were. Or it could be a lack of hard from ourside because of as you say Palaces’ handling in the summer

Agreed. I shoudl have written ā€œwhy we would no longer be interested in Guehi?ā€

Sounds like Guehi wants to leave on a free in the summer which may well suggest that we are back in for him if he doesn’t sign a pre contract in January with Barca etc.
