The Unreliable Transfer Rumours Discussion Thread (Part 4)

Understandable, they’re a bit short on the wings

He’s utterly dumb if he goes there when there are 3 other teams that can potentially offer him a starting place straight away.

Yeah Ornstein says he prefers City.

Close the door on Semenyo, then.

We could have kept Diaz for another 12 months but he might have become a distraction.

Let it go already. He’s gone. Not our player anymore. It’s unhealthy to be so obsessive! :+1:

Merry Christmas!!

Highly questionable if he’d have agreed to it, I would say no.

I think last summer was a case of deciding whether we offer him a new 4-5 year deal or cash in if an important offer comes.

I thought he said City and United were “ahead” of us but that he prefers Liverpool, whatever the hell that means.

The story just seems a guessing game, see what happens I guess.

Actually just found the tweet from Ornstein. He does in fact claim Semenyo prefers a move to City in January.

Well he said Chelsea expected to enter the race 4 hours ago so who knows.

He had 2 years left on his contract we didn’t have to sell him. Once we did not replacing him was pure madness. The argument at the time was we had enough cover has shown to be nonsense going into the season with Gakpo and Salah as your first choices with Rio a 17 year old who has contributed to 58 minutes of meaningful football and Chiesa and where it seems he isn’t fancied and has 212 minutes so far this season.

Gakpo is only 800 minutes behind his total for the whole of last season. No wonder Slot says his injury is due to over use.

We didn’t have to sell him, but we made a decision and probably had to, one way or another. An important new long term deal or selling for an important fee.

I don’t think there was room for us to tell him “give us another year of more of the same and then we’ll see what we decide to do with you”. He’s turning 29 in a few weeks.

He was playing partly up top, partly on the left last season. Part of our best attack trio last season, when we found the winning formula.

Also a question whether he was willing to continue being partly used up top or wanted to be strictly a left winger.

The BBC report on him likely joining City ends by saying that location and his family’s wishes are also a big factor. I suppose that implies that Manchester as a destination, the so-called ‘capital of the north’, has more pull than Liverpool.

Anyway, it seems we have a back-up. Some guy with a composite LFC name.

Liverpool are monitoring Brentford forward Igor Thiago, 24, as they look at attacking reinforcements. (CaughtOffside)

if we did go in for Thiago id be concerned for more than just some comedic reason about injuries…

we might be starting to see us slip back into the scattergun approach to transfers and buy the flavour of the month

We need a winger/forward and a central defender in January. Hopefully we are on it. I could name one or two other positions to strengthen but I’m trying to be realistic by leaving it at two January signings. We’ll see.

As for Diaz, it’s all been done to death. He wanted out, and so we sold him for a fair price. He is definitely a good player, and in a world where the newbies haven’t set it on fire so far, and the team is struggling, it is understandable to want to keep going back to what we had before.
