The Unreliable Transfer Rumours Discussion Thread (Part 4)

He’s decent enough and I think he will do well, would say it’s a similar move aside for him.

I don’t see any movement in us getting Guehi or any senior signing this window

It’s really unfortunate, this Guehi scenario. We gambled, and we lost.

should have signed him earlier in the window. city really dont even need him (have like 5 cb’s), like they really dont need semenyo. but hey whatever i guess

What I don’t understand is, if you don’t sign him now, paying the 35 million or whatever, you are still going to have to pay probably more to get someone else in the summer anyway. so why not pay now for a proven PL commodity so you dont have to pay later

They have bad injuries and they reacted, we don’t because we are too clever.

Presumably there is someone else we’ve got our eye on we like a lot more even if it will cost us more. There is an attitude about our CB situation at the club I dont really understand, but these things are also often difficult to judge in real time as developments are playing out.

would you not rather pay the 35 million now for a proven player than probably paying 50-70 million in the summer for someone who probably has not kicked a ball in the PL

We’ve found quality players in the past for bigger or smaller fees, who haven’t necessarily kicked a ball in this league.

i guess we will hold onto that hope then instead of splashing the 35 million on a proven PL defender. my issue is they dont want to pay anything now. and im saying that ship has sailed. you either pay now or you pay later, either way you gonna pay. so pay for the proven commodity now.

BREAKING: Manchester City have agreed a deal in principle to sign Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi. Personal terms are already in place. Move expected to be finalised in coming days.

It is their job to know the market well enough to know who is the best fit for us. I am totally fine with them preferring to focus on someone else from another league. What I don’t understand is the bigger picture about our attitude to our CB situation both in the summer and now. Maybe they have a masterstroke up they are waiting to play and we when we see it our decision on how to go through this season will make more sense. I really dont know.

well city have agreed a deal. so we will see i guess

The way the bid was handled in the summer suggests as @limiescouse says that they have their eye on someone they rate much more highly.

I don’t agree. This is the player we wanted to sign and almost did on the final day of the transfer window. We waited till then to get the best deal, but he was the 1 we wanted. If we have found someone better, then after deciding we needed a CB on Sept 1st, we most definitely still need them now so where are they. Why haven’t we brought him in?

No the way the bid was handled in the summer is because we thought we were being clever and putting palace under pressure and it back-fired

If we viewed the player as a priority we would have worked harder to get the deal done earlier.

I think the one we really wanted was the lad at Bournemouth who went to Real Madrid. We were willing to do a deal for Guehi, but the way we went about it doesn’t really make sense if we thought he was really the one we wanted - of all our signings made last summer, it was deliberately left till late and we showed little sign of willing to pay even a little more to get it done.

20 million lol. we didnt want to pay that
