BREAKING: Marc Guehi to Manchester City, HERE WE GO! Official proposal accepted by Crystal Palace right now — understand fee will be around Ā£20m. Guehi has ACCEPTED move to #MCFC. Exclusive story, now confirmed.

If he can help them win the title, it’s a great move for all parties.

I’m sure we didn’t really want him anyway, so nothing to see here.

Especially when we then see the lack of urgency in acting once this window opened. Remember with Virgil we announced the deal a week before the Jan window even opened.

Like I said, I dont get what we’re doing here, even more so given pretty much the worst case scenario for how the new back 4 would come together have played out.

Sky sports reporting as breaking news: Guehi to City close, Glasner leaving and of season

Guys whatever the argument is here, if city is getting him for 20 million that is a no brainer

We signed Leoni for 26 million. but what do I know? I’m just a couch manager

We’ll see what’s Guehi’s status next season though, when Dias and Gvardiol (although the option of him at LB remains, with Nouri not really impressing so far) are back fully fit.

Stones is out of contract at the end of the season, so Dias, Gvardiol and Guehi could be their first 3 main CB’s next season.

We going shit on Leoni because we didn’t do a deal for Guehi.

YNWA is just bullshit isn’t it.

it also gives them options to play Gvardiol as a full back, which is something pep has done

my goodness, who is shitting on the kid?? we talking in context of value, NOTHING to do with the kid. My goodness man

Why mention him though? You know it’s got zero to do with Leoni, we evidently offered more than the current accepted offer and it’s led to Glasner saying he is off.

This has nothing to do with Leoni as a player, he’s only being referenced in terms of market value. Leoni at Ā£26m is a very good deal for a highly rated prospect with strong upside. By that same logic, Marc Guehi at Ā£20m, as a proven, established player, would represent exceptional value. This isn’t criticism of the youngster; it’s simply value placed in context.

:face_with_steam_from_nose: I don’t care if it’s Guehi or not, what I care about is we have only 6 defenders now. 1 of them is very injury-prone (Gomez), another is better when playing attacker (Frimpong). We do fucking need more.

Never change LFC. Never change.
Complete shambles from top to bottom.

The manager was always gonna fuck off after selling Guehe and Mateta.
He wants United.

You write ā€œwe fucked that one upā€ wrongly.

Players are free to choose where they work, same as we all are, to an extent, but having been so close to joining us a few months ago I can’t help feeling disappointed that he’s going elsewhere now, especially there.

Did we really shit the bed on that deal, make such a bad impression on him he didn’t want to see the move through now? I can’t believe we just lost interest in him because of what happened previously.

Yeah, this really goes beyond how we approached the Guehi situation. It’s a case of our larger strategy being really difficult to understand.

Thinking that Leoni was enough in the summer (context - we were content for our take it leave it offer for Guehi to result in us not getting that through) required such an incredibly rosy perspective of how the defense would stand up. That goes beyond the 4CBs but extends into questions about both FBs as well and how that might stress the CB options. This season has now played out far closer to the worst case scenario for the defense than even the median case, and yet we still seem content to bide our time. Its just really difficult to understand what we’re thinking.
