As far I know, we didn’t even make a move for Guehi and there are reports that we won’t do anything at all this window. What that means is anybody’s guess.
No one seems able to tell what we’re doing.

Embarrassing
Signing a proven 25-year-old England international centre-back , a potential captain for £20m is a no-brainer, especially when we were prepared to pay £35m plus a 10% sell-on just six months ago.
Man City in process of finalising deal to sign Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace. ~£20m + bonuses & sell-on %. 5.5yr contract. #MCFC intensified pursuit after Gvardiol/Dias injuries so #CPFC had to accept or lose 25yo as free agent in summer
It suggests the board have alternatives lined up for the summer. Whether that is because they are confident Konate will sign a new contract or someone fresh coming in I don’t know.
Personally, I think a premier league experienced, ball playing CB who is English is probably good value at £45m, and am very surprised we haven’t worked harder to get him.
Four months ago people were arguing he was too short and not good in the air.
Now he’s going somewhere else the sky is falling in. Funny how things change.
I think it means the club hierarchy have little faith in Slot and that we are waiting for summer and likely new manager before spending any money. Part of the reason can be, of course, that our targets aren’t available at the moment. But top 4 is an absolute necessity and that is no sure thing. It makes no sense to not bring someone in if at all possible.

Fee agreed £20m plus add-ons taking total deal to close to £30m. Wages of around £200,000 for Guehi.
Jabu, we get it. He’s going to City.
im back to my copy and paste mode now… not arguing
Maybe it’s because Konate’s form has fallen of a cliff (and he’s running down his contract), Gomez has reverted to his injury prone mean and Leoni got the worst of injuries on his debut?
I wouldn’t pay the money Man City are paying for Guehi at this moment because it sets a dangerous precedent (remember how we all laughed at Real Madrid signing Trent for half of that with ONE MONTH of his contract left?). That said, I would have made sure to pay what he was worth the last summer in timely fashion.
I don’t think that makes sense.
The fee wouldn’t have been that substantial to pay and there is unlikely to be that much stylistic difference between Arne and any incoming head coach/ manager.
Finally, our structure is not reliant on the head coach’s preference.
Video of player in LFC kit now deleted in recycle bin along with Fekirs.
£20m is a bargain. City want to win something. We are happy to crawl over the line…if we are lucky.
The ECHO understands Liverpool do not regard signing Guehi this month as a market opportunity compared to last September and this coming summer, and are thus unlikely to change their stance over resisting a late effort to gazump City. [
Like i said, what do i know, im just a couch manager
Sounds to me that we were so pissed off with Palace’s shenanigans in the summer that we weren’t going back in for him , no matter what.
Face saved
Despite the reporting which indicated that we were not in for Guehi this winter and would bide our time until the summer, a part of me believed that was more of a hope that we’d get him on a free and that we’d accelerate our plans if another club swooped in, as we’ve done in the past.
It is obvious that we need defensive reinforcements. Even if Ibou extends, we are still woefully short at the back.
And while I understand those who feel that this is a referendum on the club’s support for Slot, in this case, I don’t think that matters. Whether we bring back Slot or sack him, we need defensive reinforcements either way.
So, that leads to two conclusions:
I was a bit surprised he seemed to be our biggest priority at the back, so I wasn’t overly thrilled with him then so am not overly disappointed he’s gone elsewhere. But the caveat for that is the assumption we would then do something else.
So I think the real take him is I am shocked we have put such a low priority on bolstering the CBs this season, as seen by such a lukewarm pursuit of him in the summer. And that someone who was worth spending 35 million on last summer is seemingly not worth trying for again now, at seemingly even better value, after our situation has got clearly worse.
This is unfortunately one that will stay in the memory and be a topic for a long time, how we are guilty or there is one guilty person/party why Guehi didn’t end up here.
