The Unreliable Transfer Rumours Discussion Thread (Part 5)

I feel like the last time we really went all in for a homegrown player was our failed attempt to secure Bellingham (would have likely succeeded had we opted for Rice instead), and before that was AOC.

But if that agreement has expired and the next available one is for the 50m euros NEXT summer, maybe Leverkusen have need for the money now that they’d hope to receive in 12 months?

Anw, as Arteta is proving, it is never a bad thing to stack non-youth defenders in your squad.

Throughout the chocolate chat, I was waiting for someone to bring it back to Barcola so I could post this

That’s all I wanted to say really.

Quansah was hard done by Slot, and the club went out their way to make sure that he could be brought back with minimum fuss.

A year later, we’ve bought two young, up-and-coming defenders for the here and now, and two more, even younger for the future, and we’ve even made a sort of an emergency loan for a defender. During all this time and our obvious need for defensive cover, Quansah never entered the frame, although he can cover both CB and RB. Now that probably has to do with his significantly lower release clause next year, but after one year away, perhaps he isn’t as highly rated internally as he was.

The point is that if we wanted to, we could easily match Arsenal’s bid and have him report at Kirkby within a couple of days. The fact that we are happy to see him leave for a direct rival, may suggest that we are happy with what we’ve got and that he won’t prove a shrewd move for Arsenal.

We can only hope that this assessment is correct.

It’s a shame to see a truly homegrown player like Quansah play for rivals.

Yes, that deserves respect

But we all have opinions anyway.
And mine is on calm reflection. We shouldn’t have sold Quansah. And if he signs for Arsenal, we will most likely regret it in the future.

I like Quansah but theres no guarantee we’d go for him next summer anyway.

Richard Hughes is having a nightmare though. Schmadtke is probably sat at home doing fuck all. He needs to be contacted and lets get some transfers done :money_mouth_face:

Understand your point.

But mine is on what appears a gross overreaction on here. I like the player, but he’s not top level centerback talent, as say a Pau Cubarsi.

And I don’t believe we’ll regret it if he signs for Arsenal…But that’s just me.

Don’t we have first refusal.

I would be surprised if he goes there. The injuries aren’t massively long term.

Anyhow I doubt it happens.

The first refusal only works if he wants to come back.

We do, but reliable reports (BBC, Ornstein) claim that we don’t intend to exercise that right.

That Barr-Cola drink is ideal if the players go on a Picnic :0)

And if we don’t refuse. Honestly haven’t seen anything worth getting our knickers in a twist

Would be a shocking, but welcome development.

The site is a obviously dog vomit but fella who is credited with the info has a lot of followers and seems to be well respected. Additionally, Chelsea have an excess of right backs and need to sell players to balance the books.

I’d personally reconsider using a social media handle that looks like a venereal disease.

Slot was a long term project. At the time considering the situation for Quansah the best thing to do was move on as the club couldn’t guarantee him anything. The club was in a pickle of a situation (due to it’s choice of manager).
A player like Quansah doesn’t want or need a loan situation. I can not believe that that is even being suggested as an alternative in the situation.

Is he the same age as, or younger than, Barcola and Ekitike? Hope they could convince Olise to join them too :see_no_evil_monkey:
