We did have a buyer for Gomez lined up (one of the Milan sides i think) but was pulled once the Guehi deal fell through. Palace had even requested him on loan but we refused as we preferred a sale.

From a bit of googling the original source the aggregators are spewing out various versions of interest in Wharton seems to be ElNacional.cat who said that Real Madrid have withdrawn interest due to the price quoted (i.e. not out of contract on a free) leaving ManU and LFC to fight it out

Yeah I thought that might be the case when he was sat on the sidelines but not bench during the first game.
Shame to lose a local lad but there’s a few of the squad that seem set on leaving and after last season I can’t say I’m surprised - I wouldn’t have wanted to be in that environment either.

I think this as well. If someone comes in and effectively pushes him down the selection order, making him the 5th guy, I think he’ll be sent out on loan.

I think Nyoni will be a beast of a midfielder in a couple of years and now needs game time to make that happen, but if Jones goes we do need another body in midfield.
If the money is right Wharton could be the player as we need another link from the back to front, we have 2 runners with the ball in Szob and Grav and then Nyoni and Wharton as our passers.
Unsure where that leaves Macca, maybe as a replacement for Wirtz?
