Is Lavia getting much game time at Chelsea? If potentially available, he could be an interesting option; homegrown too. We were interested when he was at Southampton.

To be honest, I think the problem is that they are now expected to do or believed to be capable of doing everything. Jack of all trades, master of none.
In my view, 3 specialists beats 3 generalists in the last decades since 4 4 2 has gone. The best midfield of the last 20 years had a sitter (Busquets), a guy to control the game (Xavi) and somebody to go make things happen in the final third. Our best midfield in that time had similar: a ball winner (Masch), a ball player (Alonso) and a guy to go make stuff happen in the final third (Gerrard.
For me, three specialists with defined roles beats three generalists every time. Football has moved away from it towards generalists and I think it´s part of the reason why midfields are so mediocre nowadays. I can´t think of any truly great midfields now. That Spain midfield of the WC would get absolutely schooled by Busquets, Xavi and Iniesta. When Man City won the title every year, they had 3 very different players as a midfield.
