What do you mean by identity politics? All politics is driven by identity. Why have flags in classrooms, oaths of allegiance, national anthems? Why do all US kids learn about the Mayflower, Washington and Lincoln? All of this is part of forming a national identity. It’s been the same throughout history, so what is this ‘identity politics’ that you are concerned with now? Irish, Italians, Poles etc all had to fight to have their identities recognised as part of being ‘American’, and now it’s newer migrants and the descendants of slaves. It’s a natural process, and not at all unique to today.
Next thing you’re going to tell me is that groups like the ‘Proud Boys’ have anything to do with ‘Identity Politics’. Come on man, you’re being ridiculous now.
The persistence of the idea that “quiet trump voters” are a significant factor, despite the complete absence of evidence is a really strange phenomenon.
Wishing POTUS and FLOTUS a speedy recovery from their confirmed COVID infection. What terrible luck to have caught it despite always taking the utmost care with masks etc…
Pence and Trump had contact on Monday after transmission from Hope Hicks which was presumably on Sunday around the time of the debacle debate. If Pence and Trump both go down badly with it, Nancy Pelosi is in charge…
If Trump recovers quickly from this, which he will considering the resources at his disposal, he is simply going to say one of these two things:
I was unaffected because I have the best of the best genes.
This disease is not really that serious.
The second one would be the worst, when you look at the effect it will have over the general population, especially the idiots who are already not taking this thing seriously.
