My suspicion is that he is dominated by the virus to the point he had to fake the illness* in order to gain a bit more popularity. And the disgusting thing is that it will work.
he was obviously gasping for air during his would-be mussolini moment, and as stupid as americans are, there’s no sign of a bounce or broadening support for trump yet. i don’t think anybody’s buying it
Well, I guess you must be right. Put my question down to the ramblings of an old duffer; the whole affair cannot possibly be a Machiavellian conspiracy.
After all, Trump is the very epitome of honesty and integrity, and it’s not as though the information released by the White House press office or the various press conferences given by his medical team have been inconsistent or lacking in transparency…
Even the Boris bounce that this idea is based on isnt really real. Whatever bump in approval he experienced had already occurred and plateaued by the time he got sick, like it was a rally around the flag in a time of general societal crisis rather than a show of support for him per se.
Unbelievable decision to end stimulus talks, even more unbelievable to do so in a unilateral way that leaves no doubt as to who takes responsibility. His own WH staff are briefing against it, presumably for purposes of self-preservation. Inside the WH right now must look like a Downfall meme.
Meanwhile, millions of Americans are going to be approaching destitution by Election Day.
Am I reading/understanding it correctly, that by focusing on securing his Supreme Court nomination over the coronavirus relief bill he is expecting to lose the election and trying to stack the Supreme Court in the hope that having his nominee in there could stack any ruling in his favor should he challange the election result?
This is one reading for the motivations, but it is incredibly unlikely to be Trump’s motivations. It is therefore entirely possible that Trump was rolled by McConnel to adopt this approach. It certainly seems to benefit Mitch’s interests more than Trump’s, and we know that it’s been pretty easy to roll Trump in this sort of way, at least in the short term. The problem is, Trump will always rebound back to his center, sometimes in a matter of just hours, no matter how much of a contradiction that is from his just publicly stated position. And that is again what we’re seeing here, with him subsequently demanding a series of immediate actions on the stimulus he had just hours before demanded to wait until after the election. This isnt the Dexa, this is the long standing pattern of Trump.
