The Walking Eagle thread

I half wonder if this is giving Trump a saving face option, for the good of the country. Mitch McConnell distanced himself yesterday, and that had to hurt Trump a lot. And no matter what he does, the gap isn’t closing to Biden. It is starting to sound increasingly sinister with the election monitoring stuff, and undermining the integrity of the election, and not saying there will be a peaceful transition, etc. There was a plot to kidnap and kill Gretchen Whitmer, and that sort of far right militia type violence is a clear and present danger in the current circumstances.

So, knowing that the game is up, maybe Trump will be given a way out… step away, for health reasons. The 25th Amendment would be a removal, and if he doesn’t want to go voluntarily it will be messy, but it’s possible it might be construed in such a way to help him save face, as it’s the only way he will comply.

Even though this is gathering some momentum, I can’t see him going along with it. It will be an admission that he isn’t well, and only yesterday he boasted to Fox how he was a perfect physical specimen!

Then again… there may be an 11th hour convergence of interests. Disenfranchised Republican voters who are moving away from Trump might just rally around Pence. And Trump might do it in exchange for pardon and immunity from the legal hammer that is surely going to fall on his fat head.

Everything is possible, especially under this administration, but I would be surprised if the 25th is enacted at this point.

just tell me the starbucks windows were safe

Trump in desperately pushing the idea that the investigation into Russia’s involvement in 2016 was a politically motivated attack on his campaign initiated by Clinton and with full approval from Biden/Obama, publicly ordered the DOJ to declassify all Russia related material.

Buzzfeed responded by asking for the entire Muller report to be redacted and the judge appears to think this is the logical consequence of Trump’s order so has sent it back to the DOJ to confer with Trump as to whether this is REALLY what he wants

I don’t see Trump agreeing to anything like that. His ego won’t allow it.

I’m not so sure. A lot of bullies are actually riddled with self-doubt. Losing fairly is something their ego cannot deal with and so they can go to extreme lengths to avoid actually having to test themselves. It prevents them winning, but allows them to continue running their mouth and telling themselves they would have won if only the contest would have been able to go ahead.

As a kid I knew a very good boxer who just had a mental block about one opponent, and he purposefully (not that he’d ever admit it) broke his hand 3 times to avoid having to take that fight and be forced to admit to himself that he was not the better fighter.

I agree with much of that, and I think it carries a lot of truth with Trump. I just don’t think given comments he has made about his health, this is one of those situations. He has throughout his career been happy to let things burn around him, as he has usually come out with something. He has already framed a narrative around the election being stolen from him.

If he loses you can see him blaming “Chaina” for the rest of his life and being utterly oblivious to the horrible things he’s done while in office. he’s so far up his own ass that he’s permanently in the dark over everything around him.

Might explain why he only got a mild dose as well… Difficult to catch COVID up your own rectum.

Out of all the bad things he has done, my bet is it’s the tax man the ultimately brings him down.

From illegal tax deductions to illegal campaign contributions. I’m sure there is also a whole lot in-between. When he is no longer president that’s when they will go after him.

It’d drag on that long that after about five years the American public would lose appetite for it, trump will get reprimanded but not punished even remotely appropriately and well all go on with the next outrage.

That’s probably the best case scenario

Politicians are never keen to go after politicians… I wonder why… can’t quite put my finger on it…

Errr you should follow French politics. The last ‘untouchable’ was Mitterrand, even then there were some who would have gone after him if they had ever been in a position to.

Don’t know anything about French politics, maybe they do play for keeps.

Just to be clear, I’m not talking about the charades they play whilst in parliament/ in office, I meant, like actually holding someone accountable, like actually accountable, as in real world accountable.

Like when trump went after Clinton in that debate how he was gonnaget her if he was elected… dropped that like a sack of shit and she’s not been pursued for jack shit.

Trump didn’t pursue Clinton because there was no truth to his claims. Although interestingly I see his team are resurrecting the claims again now.

I agree with your wider point though that politicians rarely get any follow up.

Can get pretty nasty here in France with accusations counter accusations. Fillon got destroyed for fictious employment of his wife in the last Presidential election. Sarkozy is still in the courts inwhat he describes as a politically motivated smear over finances. The thing is ‘both’ sides have power and can manipulate public, judges and media so often it appears to come to nothing ‘official’ however the damage done, above all politically, can be enormous.
Even in USA Clinton appears to have paid a heavy political price for the smear campaigns around her and her past that was dug up.

That’s my point though

The repercussions are generally only ever in the theatre of politics

‘ he’s un electable’ , ‘he’s poisoned politically’ , ‘ he’s finished’

Only to turn up on the board of some Fortune 500 company or get some cushy diplomatic posting…

You generally equate any country that puts its politicians in jail as One with compromised political system… hmmmmm… who’s writing that narrative…

Pompeo looking to release Clinton emails. In exchange, an unredacted Mueller report should also be released, just so America can understand the level of kompromat. It will go nicely with the chipping away at his financial picture, which is all coming out.

When he loses the election he won’t be immune from prosecution, though I could imagine Biden pardoning him in some sort of gesture to try to make peace. I hope not, because there is a lot there to prosecute, but the problem is it will set up a chain reaction of superfluous political prosecutions, so I could see Biden trying to draw a line under it to help the nation heal and move on.

biden literally put a medal around george w bush’s neck

barr should already be in jail for his role in iran-contra

nothing will happen to trump
