The Republican party is totally in his pocket. Biden’s too old now, let alone in three years, so yes, it looks like Harris unless someone miraculously emerges. You can count on the Democrats to fuck up though.
Allen Weisselberg, the Trump org CFO, has reportedly turned himself in to face criminal charges related to tax issues at the Trump org. It’s not clear, but the fact this has been reported to be a “little RICO” case suggests the charges will extend beyond Weisselberg.
RICO is the federal law that was created to help prosecute the mafia. What is commonly called little RICO is the NYS version that is distinct from Federal RICO in that is allows it be used towards a legit business. Federal RICO requires the Raison d’être of the organization being prosecuted to be illegal. NYS little RICO allows for the criminality to be just a small number of people within a legitimate organization using the organization for criminal ends.

I’ve long since thought that he would go the way of Al Capone. Numerous dodgy dealings, and a rap sheet longer than you can shake a stick at… but it will be financial crimes that take him down.

The details of the case have been released and it appears it is focused on an illegal tax avoiding compensation scheme. Taken in isolation it looks like a case of a CFO being prosecuted for cooking the books to his own benefit.
Taking every we’ve heard about the case this looks like just a first step as 1) there wording from the NY AG suggested he is not the only person to benefit from this scheme, and 2) this is just the most documentable case they can make right now and will likely ask for his help in tightening up other cases.
Trump has demonstrated you can crime out in the open and everyone just accepts it. It seems for anyone to take it seriously you have to reveal evidence of them hiding something (that he’d publicly admitted to). Financial crimes are a good bet for that.
It’s worth noting that the this case appeared to ramp up shortly after Vance beat Trump in court over access to Mazar’s record of Trump Inc’s financial dealings.
Al Capone was responsible for the first “use by” dates on food packaging. He paid for the free milk delivered to Chicago schools, but insisted that a use by date was stamped on every bottle. That was when he was a “respectable” businessman.
