Basically Chinese authorities from what I believe wanted to generate a league that also had homegrown players, up to a point MLS was a retirement home but is now producing players who play in the top leagues in Europe.

This is more like a semi permanent IPL, I assume the reason they are swooping on freebies is not to inflate the market for Newcastle but players will wind up their contracts if they see this league fluttering it’s eyebrows.

I assume the aim is in two directions one a super league that has their teams competing with the likes of Man City and Newcastle amongst others or to build a league outside of that but as you said it’s hard to do.

You’ll get teams with defences that are atrocious and Ronaldo up top.

I think that is fair. The various engineer types I know who have gone there and got that treatment tend to be there for only a couple of months at a time. Actually living there, even if only for a couple of years would get boring really quickly

One of my good mates from work has gone over there for almost 4x his UK salary. He’s earning enough to pay off his mortgage when he returns in a couple of years and set his family up for the future.

He hasn’t said it outright, but I’m fairly certain he’s hating it already and he’s only been there a matter of weeks. This is somebody who has done numerous long military tours.

I don’t know about Saudi but Qatar is considered one of the least desirable deployments in the Air Force. Everyone I know who has gone there absolutely hates it.

We are still talking about potential places for Thiago to ply his trade whilst there is zero official word of him moving.

He cost us little enough, has a year left on his contract and has so fucking much in his locker that its nonsense to want him out.

Whilst new players settle, he could be the mentor, the glue required to push us back to where we belong.

Apparently the other Saudi club is Al-Arabi, which is where his brother Rafinha currently plays & want Thiago as an alternative to Modric.
