It’s English media 101, especially when it comes to their own. Nothing new.
Last night was his most complete performance for a long time. Excellent defensively and pretty good going forward too. My man of the match after Milner went off.
Good news for Trent as national teams will be able to call up 26 players for this Euro.
Southgate will call up Reece James, Kieran Trippier, Aaron Wan Bissaka and Kyle Walker. Oh and he’ll take Matty Cash and Max Aaron’s to make sure they are capped for England.
Good. Means Trent will get a good rest.
I never quite follow the logic of complaints when players are or aren’t called up for England. Take Trent…when he is left out half complain of anti Liverpool motives. When players are not called up from rivals though it is because they are being favoured by being rested… seems Southgate can’t win either way…
What a game by him. Creating right from the beginning and was superb overall. Take us through the next round lad, we do not want to wake up to Europa league!
He was fucking awesome tonight.
Best right back in the world. Solid enough defensively but a revelation offensively. To think some of the dross that gets picked ahead of him for England.
Some lovely passes tonight but did anyone spot the Wan-Bissaka tackle on Jota? Absolute dreamworld stuff. Take note Arnold.
Nah I noticed Jota’s goal mind.
Was that the one where it looked like Jota stood on his cock?
Only noticed how he lost Jota in the 6yd box for him to score…!
I wouldn’t stop at right back, to be honest. He was absolutely unbelievable tonight.
I can understand if Southgate wants a more orthodox right back for his defensive set up, but in that case you play Trent in midfield. There isn’t an English player who can get anywhere near his vision and passing range.
Why didn’t he get the armband when Gini went off?
Stick to your decisions, Jurgen.
Pretty sure he did. On a pundit note, he has a fan in Andy Townsend which was refreshing to see.
Armband went to Salah, who gave it to Trent when he went off.
Interesting, didn’t know he led in all these stats for us given he had a on and off season.
Yep the whole “he can’t defend” thing is such a lazy stereotype. Just because he’s good offensively and we use tactics which mean he’s somewhere higher up the pitch sometimes whilst a CM drops to RB that is by design. He’s best RB in the world, not just because he creates.
It wasn’t just a good performance last night. It was one of his best ever for us. Right up there with the Leicester away game last season. Just needed a goal to round it off.
We ask a lot of this lad. He’s our main creative outlet but we also expect him to be sound defensively in a team playing a very high line. He didn’t put a foot wrong last night. Incredible player. Just hope he can find a bit more consistency next season.
