I have to say I’m really surprised the James numbers are anywhere near as good as they are and by how bad Walker is by the numbers. I’m far less surprised that Trent has easily the best numbers of all of them.
Clearly this shows both that numbers are meaningless in football and Southgate is an idiot.

Now I’ll tell you who I think has been the best England manager and surprise surprise Cilla it’s not Southgate. Getting to the world Cup semi was the least they should have done. In that world Cup Ingurland played a decent side, Belgium. What happened? They got beat. They played a half decent side, Croatia. What happened? They got beat.
For me Terry Venables has been the best Ingurland manager I can remember. I didn’t agree with his selections, ie sicknote Anderton over Macca, but he had a system, tactics and knew the players he wanted for his system. He got the sack for some dodgy dealings but Ingurland under him would have won a tournament in my opinion.
As regards TTA, pfft without doubt one of the best footballers around at the moment. Ridiculous to say otherwise. Reminds me of some of our own “erudite” fans, decrying Stevie G as a footballer, something about lacking tactical awareness. Ask ZZ about Stevie G.

If Southgate is not taking TAA because he has a system, tactics and a way he wants to play but doesn’t think TAA fits, well that’s his right, like it was Terry Venables’ but Southgate doesn’t have a system, tactics or a way of playing. Unless his system is play boring negative football, play it slow, misplace your passes. Try and get it to Maguire from a set piece.

This is his system, which ironically it looks like he is going to leave at home his two best set piece specialists in Ward-Prowse and Trent. Remember when we had Kane taking corners under Southgate at one point? The guy is everything wrong with English football, sets out the team not to lose rather than go out to win…
This England team which he could forge could be special… Trent, Stones, Chilwell, Mount, Sancho, Greenwood, Foden, Rice… They would form a spine of something which could win things… But you’ll never see it.

Not bothered if they don’t want to take him, it’s Southgate’s decision and I’d rather none of our players get injured playing some nonsense international tournament.
But just purely from a logical point of view - not picking the best RB in the world when you’re taking THREE right backs should be a sackable offence. If Southgate’s argument is “He’s never been as good for England as he is for Liverpool” then that should also be a sackable offence as he has just admitted he can’t get the best out of the world’s best RB.
