Trent ALEXANDER-ARNOLD: 2022/23

I missed that Walker had been laid up again and so is now likely out of the world cup. With James’ injury this week that means if Trent can get back to fitness without any setbacks he’s almost certainly going to the world cup as default. I was really warming to the idea of him missing out. Narratives are really powerful and so I can already see that out eventual exit is collectively blamed on his poor defending regardless of what actually happens, and that is just not what his mental state needs.

When he went down, I told my friends that I kind of hoped it wasn’t a serious injury but that it would keep him out for a few weeks, get him out of national media’s crosshairs and let him sort his head out.

I really can’t say if it would be better for him to play as a central midfielder - maybe he’d have a good time playing the role Henderson played last season, his skill set makes him a decent candidate for it (he’s already at home playing on the right, understands overlapping, is a good passer and a crosser, and his shooting isn’t that bad, certainly not as bad as Henderson’s).

On the other hand, it would require Klopp to find another right back, probably a defensive midfielder capable of covering more ground than Fabinho - but one could argue that we definitely need the latter, while the former would be a useful addition.

One good thing for him is that he’ll miss the Man City game and none of the five goals we will concede will be blamed on him.

On the Trent in midfield topic, Klopp already said that IF Trent is playing midfield, it shouldn’t be as an #8, but more of a #6 (depends also single/double pivot, I’d probably say the latter). It was after Southgate started Trent against Andorra as the right sided #8 in a 4-3-3. Klopp then said in a pre-match presser that he was surprised with that move from Southgate. I think there are differences when a players pops up in certain areas and actually starts from somewhere. Klopp’s argument might have been that Trent is best when he has more of the pitch in front of him, with his passing range, where and how he would receive the ball, what’s with the pressing/dynamic side of the game, etc. It would be also interesting to see if he could cope with the dynamic demands from the role Henderson has in our team. Although of course, now you get to the point where Klopp might see it in one way, Southgate in another, a different England/Liverpool manager in the future, etc. For me, it’s still not a topic. First and foremost he will have to get back to his best playing right back. And then in the future, we’ll see what happens.

Is Trent ill…I mean really ill…topping up his blood sugars…bit sluggish…

Where is that Lion picture when ya need it eh :0)

He is probably one of the most frustrating to watch this season. His passing is ridiculous last night, accurate and incisive. And then on the back foot look so sluggish, I remember he was even out ran by Perisic? But overall he seems easily flustered when things come at him. While his attacking plays are almost impeccable, he does have to improve on the defensive side of things in the composure aspect and he will be a more rounded player.

Notice Hendo gave him a energy gel when he came on. Must have been around 70-75 min mark?

When he walks out of the tunnel he is either drinking a red bull or that energy gel. No one else has them. Maybe in the dressing room but I often wonder is his fitness poor, or why is he the only player seeming so reliant on energy boosts.

I realized in the last 2 seasons or so, he seem to have bulked up a bit and not in the muscular sense, of course he is not fat or what but there seems to be abit more flesh at the abs area compared to when he first came onto the scene? So I am not sure whether he is trying to bulk up or whether he has put on unnecessary weight or what? He does seem to get tired faster compared to maybe when he is much younger, considering he is only just 24. Or is there a long covid issue?

Either that or the dreadlocks lol.

i defend Trent on twitter better than he can  but looking at him defending again today makes me think maybe England should go with Trippier at right back because he’s not doing it this season imo. Has a cracker of a pass though

He’s like the 13-14 season team represented in a single player

I’m worried and annoyed with his performances this season. But let’s not forget that he is still a young player and there’s considerable molding to be done yet.

Didn’t realise how bad a defender he was until this season…it’s brutal.

Can’t continue at RB, either shift him where Harvey is or drop him.

He’s 24.

Fun fact is that his last assist was against Villarreal in last season’s semi final, return leg.

Used to like those videos now it’s just all sponsors gifts being shown off.
