Trent ALEXANDER-ARNOLD: 2024/25

I know there are various nuances and other factors that have been discussed to death.

But when you take a step back it does feel there is some systemic negligence to let one of our best players leave on a free at 26yo

Agreed. He is replaceable but to lose out on what could have been a massive transfer fee is criminal by the club. Shot themselves in the foot.

There was a systemic failure, although an unfortunate one. Ward jumping ship out of the blue led to a summer with Schmadtke provisionally in and not doing much of anything. That was when we should have started pushing for a new deal.

By the way, the Ornstein post is hardly breaking news.

If thereā€™s a positive to this itā€™s we might end up with a right-back who can/ wants to defend.

So effectively nothing has changed since about Christmas.

Because thatā€™s exactly what was said at Christmas.

I agree to a point. But the bigger issue is that we didnā€™t have the support staff in place from when Ward decided to leave as DoF, no Technical Director and as well as Klopp leaving, we also lost the entire coaching staff, a number of physio and medical staff but had no one in place to begin the process of replacing any of them.

So when Hughes started, he had 3 top players entering the final year of their contracts, no manager, no assistant manager, no coaching team, limited physios, limited medical team. You need to then ask the question, what order you put on each role being replaced and how one affects the others?

I canā€™t see Trent being a success anywhere else. You drop him into the England squad and our British fans use him as the excuse for us losing. Heā€™s hardly stepped on the field and heā€™s public enemy number 1. Now heā€™s off to Real Madrid who have a nasty set of fans. Not hugely known for their tolerance of color and if Trent defends poorly heā€™ll be screwed.

For a club thatā€™s supposed to sell its best players to make a profit we donā€™t do a great job of that

I wish him all the best if he is to leave, but I would like to have this nipped in the bud eithier way.

Same goes for the other two.

Yeah we all knew it was coming but first Iā€™ve seen a credible journo state this

Iā€™m obviously annoyed at losing a world class play for free in their prime.

But im trying not to get too hung up on the idea of missing out on a huge transfer fee because I think its more likely that had he signed a new deal or a longer deal last time thereā€™s probably no way any team would offer the sort of money it would take to get him out the club. I think it was either go on a free or never leave for Trent.

Not sure if people trying to soften the blow, but the truth is that Trent is a brilliant player. He has normalised some things that were previously extraordinary. Even in his last game he was brilliant and I think weā€™d still be in the CL if he hadnā€™t got injured.

Heā€™ll be a success wherever he goes and I wish him well. Left us with plenty of memories. ā€˜Corner taken quicklyā€™ alone cements his legacy.

And weaken his negotiating position? Why?

And more importantly, I donā€™t know why just a random claim from nowhere is enough to send everyone into a tizzy.

As Iā€™ve always said, until heā€™s signing a contract either with us or somewhere else, the story isnā€™t over yet.

Itā€™s the downside of a Mexican Shootout type of negotiation, but if he is goingā€¦ He should tell RM to put Ā£25mill into the food banks on Merseysideā€¦ Sure fire way of everyone giving him our blessings thenā€¦ because who knows, it might all go horribly wrong for him over thereā€¦ we should always be willing to take back one of our own.

Ultimately i think this all comes down to Trents desire to play at Madrid, and the fact that he holds the cards. Canā€™t force him to sign the contract.

Club changes/Klopps departure meant that the players are also well within their right to see what the club are planning to do.

Shame that Trentā€™s not done what many see as the moral thing to do, and signed a new deal and allowed the club to gain some kind of transfer fee.

Still think Mo and Virg stayā€¦

Like I said before, good luck to him. 20 years is a long time to be in one place. Let him try something new and see how that goes!!

Haha, if it can reassure you, I went to see if there are signs of this story emerging on other Swiss media sources, and there is nothing.

Otherwise, no serious sources confirming this story at all. Of course, talksport and other trash info sources ā€˜confirmā€™ it.

Iā€™ve had a couple of goes at saying this on social media but honesty itā€™s like putting a bucket down against a tsunami of shit.

The other one that really has really pissed me off is the rumour that he will be on 200k in Spain. This apparently proves that FSG are cheap skates as if they had offered him Ā£201k he would have stayed. Yes, because thatā€™s totally how it works. And 200k tends to go quite a bit further when you only pay half the tax that you do in the UK.

Iā€™m disappointed in Trent. Looks like heā€™s done a McManaman or Owen. Sure heā€™s entitled to do this but there will be no returning and heā€™ll likely be far less successful than McManaman even before you consider heā€™s leaving a liverpool side competing (and winning) the biggest trophies in a way that neither Steve nor Michael had. He could have been LFC captain, won several more big trophies and ended up near the top of the all time great lists. Instead heā€™ll end up more a footnote in exchange for a season of two of frustration in Spain.
