Trent Alexander-Arnold (RB) Real Madrid

Or perhaps they just can’t be arsed to dignify it?

I wonder if Liverpool will time the announcement of Mo and Virg contract renewals to coincide with announcement on Trent leaving

Trent is the long term captain after Virgil. If he extends his contract here. Vvd would probably have another 3 years of playing time. Trent has atleast 8.

I wonder how much emphasis modern day players put on the captaincy?

If the team wants to compete at the high end, it should contain many leaders. Yes, the captain should be a leader, someone who you can count on to put a shift in on the pitch and do his job, and he also should be someone who works well behind the scenes, helping with camaraderie and so on.

But personally I don’t see the role as all that important. Maybe if the culture is bad and there are too many workshy individuals, a top level captain can help drag the thing up. But in a healthy team, with lots of leaders, under a great coach and highly functioning structures throughout the organization, I don’t set a lot of store on the captain role.

Also, even if Trent signs a long term deal, which I don’t expect, I couldn’t honestly say he would be the best man to be the next captain. He might be. But it’s not a clear cut thing in the way that VVD is now.

To me, being captain is akin to being front of house at a restaurant - You, your behaviour, mannerisms, personality, common-sense, photo opportunities and overall general standing in the public eye, reflect upon the club itself.
Leading the guys on the pitch is on a level footing to these things… Reason being, there are a number of talented individuals in most good teams. Difficulty comes about when the captain is not of the same skill or talent level… and yet, apart from cheerleader type duties while on the pitch, players normally know what level of performance is expected from them.
When Messi called James Milner a Donkey… The moniker sort of sticks in some quarters - Not nice for others to think we were led by a donkey…!
If it was my choice, it would be Alisson before Trent - and why that is, Alisson is world class, and because of that, a certain aura of respect will follow him everywhere.

A Spanish source pushing the idea that Trent is off to RM. No surprise there.

I’m sure he’s off, the only question is, January or June?

Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold continues to reject offers to renew his contract at Anfield as Real Madrid press on with negotiations to sign the 26-year-old when his current deal expires next summer. (Relevo - in Spanish)

We will recieve peanuts in January.

I’d rather he leave at end of season unless Real are really desperate and throw a 30m (atleast)

30 mil is better than nothing and RM do have an immediate need which we could expoit.

30m is almost certainly worse than having him for the rest of the season.

Nah.

Our league position and CL positions dictate we keep what we have.

There’s increasing chatter that Xabi is the next coach for Real.

IF Xabi sticks to 3 at the back at a RM. Would Trent even get into the side ? That’s something for Trent to ponder as Xabi is going to have to accomodate way too many stars.

Actually you won’t appreciate a captain like VVD until you see the kind of shit they got as the captain at the manure.

Ideally, Trent signs for us. I increasingly don’t see that happening.

The question is how desperate are Madrid to secure this season. I’d rather lose Trent for some money than lose him for nothing.

TAA will reject Real and sign for a Saudi team, the one managed by Stevie because “he is a legend and one I respect alot and he convinced me that the project in Saudi is an exciting one and I like to play my part to develop the quality of football in this part of the world. I have met the owners and I feel like part of the family already.”

When we are in the mix for the PL? Absolutely not. Even from a narrow financial perspective, whatever ‘some money’ figure you have in mind would be dwarfed by the potential financial loss of missing out on the title.

I really doubt the captaincy has anything to do with Trent leaving or staying, or at least I hope not; as it would be alarmingly hopeless.

I think glamour and titles is what will make him eventually choose Real Madrid. And he will be no captain there…

Well , sure. Let’s say 30m is too less. Would 40m be enough?

I mean every club has a price wherein they would do business. Once that price is met , it’s better to let the transfer happen.

Not that it would be easy to expect , Trent would want that huge signing on fee and wages which are more negotiable when he’s moving on a free.

The way Trent has been playing this season, he isn’t going to be the difference between our winning or losing the title.

And that is down to his on the ball work not is defending, which has significantly improved, never thought I would say that.

Which shows that he is dispensable, just!

I think Trent has improved too this season. But our attacking play this season has been more through the middle with keypasses from the midfield starting the attacking play as opposed to previously when there needed to be a position created for Trent. He’s still inverting into a DM position at times. He’s still going for the corners. And at times he’s going forwards as well. But with Slot , he’s not being the main guy anymore.

This role just became a bit more easier to replace. Bradley is quicker than Trent and defends reasonably too.

We’ve had the element of sameness when Trent was the go to guy to start the attacks. It just doesn’t happen with the same frequency anymore. We’ve got others who do get the ball into the oppositions box now as well.

It will be very tough to replace Trent with another Trent. But his offensive play related workload has been distributed among the rest of the team.

We will have lesser assists from the wingbacks under Slot than what it was under Klopp where the wingbacks were relied on to provide the assists.
