Trent Alexander-Arnold (RB) Real Madrid

I think you lot are being unnecessarily harsh here, @Waldaz is just providing us with an excellent illustration of why this shit-stirring works.

It’s pretty clear that it’s likely happening. Marca is usually well informed regarding transfers around Real Madrid and it is a serious outlet, Real Madrid alligned or not. It’s very rare this is nothing. If it is, it would surprise me.

Nope. It’s basically the Spanish equivalent to a British tabloid.

Nobody here wants Trent to leave, but there’s a strong possibility that he might. Marca making up crap, however, does not make the move any more likely.

Of course they are tabloid, but I have found them well informed regading transfers in the past, particularly around Real Madrid who leaks to them.
I think there is a fan tendency to always deny players wanting, or at least seriously thinking about, leaving and deny transfers news that is not news one would like, and I find it taxing. It’s always the same. Every time someone is leaving, there is a blanket denial and mockery of sources always, no matter the source. It’s always the “journalist is making up crap” , even excellent truly well informed sources that are almost never wrong, like Fabrisio Romano, is laughed at and mocked here as well, not just Marca.

We shall see. But the fact is that he has no contract, so…

UK tabloids definitely make up crap. You can probably include the likes of BILD as well.

However, it is also the case that they are fed stories from agents, which are either designed to pressure clubs or put out some wishful thinking.

There was one of our scouts (from Paisley’s era) that would tell a journalist that we were interested in a player if they turned out to be a complete donkey. Partly this was to disguise their real targets, and partly it was to see if a rival stuck a bid in first.

True, true.

I know how it often works regarding some agents and media outlets. But there is a saying about smoke and fire. If there is smoke once, there might not be a fire. But if you see smoke as a consistent story over many months, then fire is rather likely. And this isn’t news really (the idea that he is probably leaving for Spain).

I will be, like everyone, happy if it’s all wrong, but I am not willing to sit here and close down major parts of my brain, shut my eyes and refuse to read stories about transfers, and just tell myself he is not leaving “because he wouldn’t just do that”, or something along those lines.
If he is not leaving, awesome, then he is probably getting more money than he otherwise would have due to his agent leaking all over and scaring the club, but likely he is, I think at least.

It’s just, this happens every time. If someone posts a story, even if it’s been consistently in the media that a player is thinking about leaving, it’s always so upopular and there is always this tendency to blanket deny it as fraudulent rumours. It happens that it is (baseless rumours), but usually it is’t. Usually there is at least something behind it (ie.e player and agent wanting better terms, cynically using a rival club and getting their hopes up, pushing for better contract, unsavory, but it happens for sure), either dealing and wheeling regarding contract terms or, very often, player actually wanting to go.

I am rarely adventurous enough to comment on these cases (but I do read a lot about transfers, but tend to choose not to comment), because I find the blanket denials, mockery of origin of source etc., so taxing and tiresome and tendentious. But today, for some strange reason, I fucked up and commented. Will not happen again in a long while (I think).

Not important anyway. None of this. It’s important in the end if he stays of course (and if we get fee or not), but my opinion and the opinions of others, the likelyhood of him leaving or not; it it fundamentally unimportant and changes nothing.

Spanish media is prone to certain stupidities.

But this isn’t to ignore 100% either, like you can get from those random radio stations, their versions of talksport or whatever.

The reality and timing of the situation is such that this could well be true. We don’t have much time left.

Trent’s decision in his head might be much sooner than any announcement anyway. If someone finds out that before the announcement (it almost certainly will, especially if he’s leaving), it’s nothing new in the world of football.

All I want is for him to give his all while he’s here, which he’s doing.

It will be a shame if he leaves, but I will understand it if it happens and for me he will remain a legend and in positive memory.

Somebody had to replace the retiring Cynnie, who extended his job contract way longer than expected. Good audition, mate.

Marca are a Real Madrid mouthpiece and their trusted servant. I haven’t been paying close attention but there’s a feeling in my mind that stuff like this is usually true once they publish it.

I genuinely can’t understand what they have to gain by publishing this information so early if it’s not true. A tactic from Real Madrid to help Trent gauge the public opinion, so he can read bad stuff about himself on social media that will ultimately push him towards choosing Real Madrid in the end?

Other than that, I can’t see anything else, so I choose to think that Marca are being fed this info by Real Madrid because they know they have him in the bag and want to start the new year on a positive note (especially if Davies rejects them as it’s being heavily rumoured).

The ancient Marca recipe:

Post “rumours” about a player Real wants, enough fans turning on the player (another Owen, if he wants to go he should go, we don’t need him, etc.), player starting to feel unwanted, and if he gets ill adviced too, then he eventually leaves.

Hope Trent will be immune to all that.

I’m not retiring. I’m going to join a Real Madrid forum on a free transfer. Better food, warmer weather and more likely to win trophies.

Oh, and they’re paying me more.

Disgusted. You’ll be just another old git there, and thanks for letting us know sooner rather than later, so we can cancel the forum statue we had ordered…
You may as well change your forum name to @cynicaloldjudas.

Is it really though? There are probably plenty of counter examples where such stories turned out not to be true but simply clickbait.

If he leaves, he leaves. We move on. Klopp was much, much more important than TAA, and we aren’t exactly struggling, are we!

I think so and I am not convinced it’s true regarding stories that are consistently in the media more often being pure clickbait. But I haven’t done or seen analysis or research on that, so possible, but I don’t think so.

Anyway, I am not going to trawl for such research, if it exists

It’s one of the sayings that really irritate me…
It practically means that anyone can say whatever they want, and if they say it often enough, then it’s true. Then the argument “where there’s smoke there is fire” comes in play. Defies logic.

Trent may or may not go to Madrid. It happened with too many players in our history, to dismiss it as a possibility. But just because Marca is posting whatever is convenient for Real Madrid, as usual, it doesn’t mean we should pay too much attention.

I could post that you are a descendant of Jack the Ripper, and that doctors said you are very likely to develop similar tendencies.
It sounds ridiculous, but I could insist on posting it over a period of time. You’d be surprised, but there would be posters that would start at least thinking about it, and at least one poster would throw “where is smoke there is fire”. Absurd saying.

Guys, I am aware of how large scale propaganda operations can invent truths that have little or no relation to fact. I am used to it and deal with it often. Even so, I don’t think this is the same for several reasons.

Peace out, as the teens today would say ! :slightly_smiling_face:

All respect and best wishes to you all, I just prefer to withdraw for now :sunglasses:
