Trent Alexander-Arnold (RB) Real Madrid

What with Cynnie’s bar tab and AN_L’s korma bill, we probably make a slight loss, but luckily we’ve got the Adidas money.

Got into my time machine and can confirm that this is what happened.

Dont know if anyone is aware , but that £5 million pound figure is the same figure apparently as to the reason why we aint starting nunez :grimacing::rofl:

I think we all know the reason Nunez isn’t starting and it’s got nothing to do with owing Benfica the change on that deal.

If he really wanted to play Nunez he wouldn’t be coming on with 10 minutes left.

But can we stop with that bollocks.

It takes Arne 80 mins to find him as he keeps getting lost in other players threads.

Oh! and on here nonsense never stops so no!

I’m petty enough to be hoping for the Real Madrid hierarchy to be pondering how much to offer us to release him early, only to see a post on Instagram from the club about his new contract.

One of Trents brothers made a cryptic post on Instagram after the Spurs game, something like… They should retire Trent´s number after the season etc.

Isn´t one of his brothers also his manager? I don´t know which one anymore.

Even though it may have been just a joke, I didn´t think it was appropriate. At that moment I just ignored it; I didn´t want to get angry or spoil the mood.

Dear me, Trent with his number…

I don’t like those high numbers, I don’t like retiring numbers and Trent might not like when he realizes #66 is a no go in La Liga.

Don’t think any of Trent’s entourage can moan about the way he’s been supported in the last few games by the vast majority of vans.

I hope we can part ways normally without any added drama, especially over details.

I could never quite workout with him if that was superstition or branding.

I’d hope that the number is eventually reused for an ambitious 16 year old. Let it be iconic for the right reasons.

Didn’t Carragher advise him to keep it? Something about being unique.

To be fair the full context here is that he posted an insta story with music on and what you’re talking about there with retiring numbers, were lyrics in the song.

Not to say that it isn’t all orchestrated and intentional, but it’s not like his brother said those words himself, they’re lyrics in a song that was playing on the post.

Maybe just wanting to stay original. Maybe considering a change in the first years and then just sticking to it. I remember the club was offering Carra a more “important” defensive number, but he wanted to remain #23. #23 is better than #66. I would have all first teamers (and a couple of the best young players who are becoming part of it) from 1 to 39. Since you usually have or want to have 22-25 seniors, that’s more than enough room. The rest (40-99) would be just youth, since these days they probably need to have a club number, even if it’s not planned for them to play.

Kelleher, Quansah, Bradley, Bajcetic… all of them would already have more “normal” numbers if it was up to me. In Spain they take good care of it. But of course it’s the player’s will also. If it messes up with fan choices of player on the back of shirts for a short while, can always do that refunding thing.

Exactly, but that certainly wasn´t a randomly chosen lyric; it was meant to mean something. Whatever, I found it inappropriate, including the whole discussion about it.

That´s why I didn´t post it here; I didn´t want to spoil the mood. He obviously did, otherwise he wouldn´t have posted it.

If TAA goes to Madrid, and whether the majority of LFC fans are okay with this… also need to understand the mentality of an awful lot of ‘homebase’ Scousers that support Liverpool no matter what the circumstances that test this loyalty.
TAA, and his brothers that have been instrumental in his moving to RM… will forever be known as ‘Rats’.. in the community. Now, tomorrow, or 20yrs down the line, rightly or wrongly, it is, and will be the mindset of some fans that think they have the right to label them as such…
A small price, or even a high price to pay, in the eyes of those that think he could have handled the move, in a manner more beneficial to LFC to at least cushion the opinion that will be formed around the Alexander Arnold family.
Not even sure there is even an explanation for feelings that manifest in this way, guess it is just the way it is… :person_shrugging:

I would have thought that it would be the ambition of players to get a “first team” squad number, and then a low number.

I rather like the idea that a new no 66 would be inspired by Trent, but aspire to be the number 2 or 5 or whatever the appropriate position is. Then again, I know that some players do aspire to certain numbers because of who had them previously, for example, Thomas Müller wanting to be 13 to emulate Gerd Müller’s Germany number.
