This is the most random, lame, ‘insider’ knowledge on the inter web, but here goes.
I was speaking to my dad yesterday. I’ve lived in the States for 16 yrs, my dad is now an older fella, late 70s, back in the UK, Birkenhead. We were catching up about life and so on, and the conversation turned to the mighty Liverpool (my dad stood on the Kop in the 60s and passed it all down to us kids).
Anyhow, my dad is good friends with Tyler Morton’s granddad
My dad asked him what their Tyler was going to do, and his granddad named a couple of clubs he was talking to. West Ham and one in France.
Doesn’t mean anything will happen of course, but I was laughing my head off with my lad yesterday, telling him that his granddad back in England knows Tyler Morton’s granddad, and he was asking after him.
Like I said, it’s not great insider stuff, but there you have it
Lyon have agreed personal terms with 22-year-old Liverpool midfielder Tyler Morton, but the Premier League champions’ £8m asking price could cause a roadblock in the deal. (L’Equipe - in French)
Baulking at £8m? Fuck off.
Lyon are a mess, I really hope Morton gives them a swerve. He can do better.
A soon to be 23-year old with 761 minutes of football last season, out of which 351 at senior level, with a year left on his contract, two full seasons in the Championship under his belt, albeit a U21 champion this summer…
How much is it even realistic to expect?
The sort of fees I heard from the media and fans this summer seemed a bit too much. Not gonna complain at all if we get something similar, but then I’m not shocked if it’s hardly gonna surpass those €10m.
Liverpool’s academy product, England’s U21 international with two full and successful seasons out on loan in Championship. Jobe Bellingham has just joined Dortmund for 30 million pounds, so I think that Liverpool have every right to demand half of that for Morton. That said, I expected a slightly higher fee for Kelleher as well but maybe it was influenced by his contract situation.
Lyon are a decent side and the ownership struggles there shouldn’t weigh too heavily on the evaluation of what sort of opportunity this is for him. There is also a spot that has naturally opened up for him with Gomes’ move to Marseille.
Given Textors involvement in both Lyon and Crystal Palace maybe we can give them Morton for a good price in exchange for a similarly reasonable asking price on Guehi
