UEFA Champions League

Tough day for Dortmund, they were not far from the promised land when the wheels fell off today

Would love something like Inter/United/Barca in the next round, if they really finish second in their groups.

Oooh
United please.

We can’t be drawn against another English team in the last 16, only the last 8 onwards.

No one cares about the deputy.

Atlético - Milan
Liverpool - Porto

Priorities for rest of the group stage:

  • no injuries
  • rest players
  • help Porto reach the k.o. stage :grimacing:

I know JĂŒrgen has said he wants to field strong teams in the last two games but I would play the back up players. We have already won the group and it’d be a good opportunity for the reserve players to get big match experience and therefore be ready to step up when the “first team” players are unavailable.

Those 9 player should play most of the minutes vs Porto and Milan.

Nat to come on for 30 minutes in both games.

In midfield Hendo and Fabinho are too important to start them.

Can not afford injury to Sadio, Mo or Diogo after Bobby’s injury. 60 minutes combined in both games should be the max for each one of them.

Morton and Gordon to get some minutes?

I hear what you are saying but a win brings the club 2.5m euros. I’m pretty sure he will field the strongest team possible.

I think he probably has to say that regardless of who he thinks he will pick.

I think he thinks the team he’ll put out is strong. I cannot help but come back constantly to the idea that he only keeps around players whom he thinks will be able to contribute, and therefore to him, unless we’re massively weakened in one particular area (e.g. last year’s defensive crisis), we’re always putting out a strong team.

Considering the pile-up of games and injuries these CL and probably the League Cup QF are the welcome opportunities to rest/recuperate the regular players. Since we don’t have any backup for Fabinho, Morton should be tried in those games as well as some minutes in the other games.

I’d say Neco showed he deserves some CL time yesterday.

Yeah but injuries nearly cost us the CL qualification last season, a similar loss this season would potentially do it again.

I don’t mind putting a mixed side out against Porto at home but no Salah, Mane, Fabinho or Hendo (if he is fit).

But for Milan away in December I’d send the U23s

Will not happen and rightly so. We can not afford to piss 2.5m euro away like we are City.

That is less than the difference finishing one place lower makes in the prize money for the Premier League, so it is not a straightforward calculation.

Be that as it may, Klopp played Jota for the same reason (money) in Denmark last year,

I think Klopp believes that winning is a habit, and feels a responsibility to win just about any game.

Jota hadn’t started many games to be honest at that point, he was a squad player and not many other first teamers played that game.

Yes he had got us some vital goals but at that point I didn’t see him playing being an issue.

Hindsight needs to be a factor, as I said squad is fine, but we can’t be risking first teamers who are vital.

Yeah, we fans always have much wilder ideas/wishes than how it is in reality.
