UK Politics Thread (Part 1)

All European nations have their own domestic right wing nationalist groups. We’re about to provide the clearest argument for ignoring them that the EU could wish for.

Oh we’re definitely about to be made an example of; I was just playing with futurism. There are bodies of opinion in the States I vulgarised that wish to exit too. Im sure you know.

I was a staunch supporter of membership and argued alongside you back in the old TIA thread; Ive just seen another side to it since divorce talks. Yeah overthinking a little, plotting a line of flight of ideas, but we all know what happened to Rome’s eastern empire. In terms of accession the EU are swapping the UK for Ukraine, how oddly similar such names.

What’s the other side of it that you have seen since the divorce talks?

Extraterritoriality.

Funnily enough, this is weird, but the same happens with planets. When a planet gets so large it collapses its solid base and becomes liquid and gaseous.

The soon to come collapse of the EU has been predicted about 5 times a year, for decades. Who knows, but I’m not seeing it.

Actually I think it’s even less likely now than a few years ago. So thank you, I guess

You may be right. You (and others) may remember that my one concern about leaving the EU was that we may have left it too late. I had hoped we hadn’t (and was glad we weren’t going to be leaving it any later) but regretfully for those countries that remain in the EU I can’t see them having any chance of getting off the train now.

I mean no insult to you or any of the other remaining EU members by that, or those who support the EU. It’s just my genuinely held view that the EU project is fundamentally flawed and undemocratic and that it will inevitably end in disaster. I obviously hope it doesn’t but I haven’t liked the direction of travel for more than a decade and the last 4 years have only served to heighten those concerns.

Are you actually of the opinion that the same laws, rules and financial constraints won’t work for every nation in the EU? Surely we’re all one big happy family? Germany’s economy is identical to Greece’s which is why they both thrive so healthily. And precluding trade with anybody else on the planet through punitive taxes is the correct stance to take in the face of the French and Spanish farmers needing protection. Surely.

But then this is ALL bad news. Isn’t it?

My god man, I’d rather be Jeremy Corbyn.

Don’t forget your blue passports. You won’t be able to use them anywhere but at least they’ll be blue. :+1:

I hope that we’ve all appreciated the irony that we’re getting back our sovereign right to bendy bananas (like they always fucking have been) just as they go extinct?

Gets me into the USA. Odd as they’ve never been in the EU.
