UK Politics Thread (Part 1)

I don’t actually think the Microsoft aspect is key - Google Classroom runs well in a couple of other environments. But not having a keyboard is a killer, because any input other than voice means switching away from at least some of the content.

I was talking to another parent who is a teacher with 20 years+ experience in secondary school - Grade 9 mainly, the first year of secondary school. I was surprised when he said he expects this to be the second largest challenge of his career as a teacher. He explained that the greatest is going to come when he has to teach the first cohort to face normal expectations, where some of them will be in the normal range, and others will be well over a year behind.

They work fine for video meetings but if the work is then issued in Word format or similar, you’re always going to struggle. iPads are toys, PC architecture is for work.

Where are these gaps please? I’m curious.

Schools spend money as they wish. You can have a TA per class all day or a cutting edge IT infrastructure. Choices choices.

The world of work is based on MS products. Kids need to learn that which they will use in the future.

Really interesting thread on the NI Protocol. I should point out that it contains a fair bit of criticism of the ineptitude of Boris Johnson and the government, just so that those who are not always inclined to read what I post are motivated to do so in this instance… :upside_down_face:

David Henig is someone whose comments I have posted frequently in the threads here and on TIA. Always worth reading on trade related issues.

This would be hillarious - if Donaldson was making a joke.

Except that the EU has already shown that making such a change requires no consultation, it is simply a bureaucratic decision. It is the obvious next step. That absurd decision may as well have been an invitation in the mail to the DUP.

Indeed it does, but the point of my post was Donaldson asking for an example of any country in the world that has a border separating it. He lives about 35 miles from the Irish border. :joy:

He might have a slightly different view of which country he lives in than you…

The country he lives in is Northern Ireland.

So Gove has been tasked with negotiating ways of reducing friction at a border that Boris Johnson says doesn’t exist?

Gove will simply leave the room. Hide in the Foreign and Commonwealth Offices for an hour, have a coffee. Then go back and tell Johnson it’s all sorted and Johnson will totally believe him.
