UK Politics Thread (Part 1)

That’s probably because ‘Insulate Britain’ protesters had blocked the motorway at the other end! :joy_cat:

I half listened to this today. I think you have to be kind of special to go to one of these things, enjoy and participate in them. It all sounded a bit weird to me.

It was like everyone had an auto clap function that had been turned up to 11. Bar the odd heckler who clearly hadn’t been wired up correctly.

F***, my renewal couldn’t have arrived at a worse time then.

Sit and think this one through a little I think.

Not sure what the renewal terms are, but I would imagine that those suppliers are either trying to get any renewals on the best possible terms, and/or simply declining to renew many customers. Many, many customer accounts now are a net liability, and dumping any customer you can reduces the demands on cash. The government doesn’t appear to be doing anything to address that, while pressure is building on the Ofgem placement system, so there is an unaddressed moral hazard. The smart play is to dump customers that are draining you to leave yourself solvent to pick up the customers Ofgem is going to have to subsidize.

Basically you sign up for a Contract with an energy supplier and within that contract you get deals depending on how long you sign up for etc. A fixed deal has always been an attractive proposition as you are relatively immune from any prices hikes like this one while your contract is still in effect.

Mine is just ending :rage: :rage: :rage: :rage: :rage: :rage: :face_with_symbols_over_mouth: :face_with_symbols_over_mouth: :face_with_symbols_over_mouth: :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

So any new deal now is set with the panic price in mind.

I read that the companies withdrew their offers from the price comparison websites, so they can’t go through that route!

But it will still be capped, while the cost to the company may keep increasing.

yes, unless I choose to go with a cheaper variable rate. Not sure i’d be happy to take that risk at the moment to be honest

We have seen a real shift by Starmer.

I believe he genuinely wanted to try heal the party when he came into power. Primarily because the notion that you can only win if the party displayed a united front.

It seems he reached a point of saying fuck it, its a losing battle.

To be honest he has to try something, the party needs to snap its self out of its own navel gazing.

I think you are right for the most part of your post, but disappointingly, he didn’t pair the ruthless excommunications with policy offers. If he had sent the message that he would listen policy-wise, but wouldn’t stand for disruption, then I think he would have a lot more sympathy. A lot more carrot to go with the stick, in other words.

Kind of proves my point though, don’t you think? Especially if you read the rest of my post.

I’ve never trusted the ordinary man in the street. What is he doing there loitering about? Well dodgy, if you ask me.
