UK Politics Thread (Part 1)

Furniture is nothing compared to ripping up the roads to run the cables. A 75kw cable is more than substantial.

You saw the bit about how itā€™s already being done, right?

But only 2kw charging.

Birth rates are already falling, rapidly, all over the world. That happens as a natural consequence of development, education, and female empowerment. Weā€™re very unlikely to ever hit 10bn people, which was once thought to be nailed on for 2050.

At current rates of consumption, your one child will have a greater carbon footprint that twenty children from your archetypal third world rural family. That is the problem, and why talking about population in the context of climate change is nonsense.

A nice fine coming!

How many ships are the Royal Navy going to locate in the channel, this is hilarious.

But it wonā€™t be, thatā€™s my point. If we level up the world, everybody consumes more.

What laws are they breaking, arresting illegal fish trawling is ā€˜normalā€™!

Morgan Freeman Good Luck GIF

The problem is still consumption not population.

Or a UK trawler stuck for ever in a French port.

Better late than never but this sort of language is never appropriate.

She should have apologised for overgeneralising. Some of them absolutely are scum

In all seriousness, she should absolutely should not be apologising for calling the Prime Minister a racist, homophobic misogynist. He is absolutely all those things, and this is a matter of public record.

So frustrating that sheā€™s right in many cases, not all but certainly some.

itā€™s so sad that no one is holding these people to account in the mainstream media or in parliament. Only the other day Gove was spouting how Brexit has allowed the UK to have freeports. What the hell did we have before 2012 then. No one asked and the comment went unchallenged yet again.

Heā€™s right that the benefits of Freeports were constrained by the EU making them less attractive, hence why they fell out of use.

its not like you magically appear at a trainstation though.

id imagine the faff of flying vs the faff of train comute is reasonably similar.

certainly not an expert on it though.

And yet thereā€™s still a large number of them across the EU (80 as of 2019). The EU hasnā€™t stopped them, itā€™s tried to clamp down on the illegal stuff that can go on within them. It was also the Conservative government that got rid of them.

Yes, in large part due to the regulatory constraints imposed by the EU making them less beneficial.
