BBC, a huge media organisation famous for not having any French speakers among its ranks.
Not a media source Iād normally look at but more of the usual hypocracy from Boris
Depends on what that boat was really doing IMO.
Itās also a little rich given the stuff that Frost has been spouting about the deal he negotiated and agreed.
Yeah, I agree.
The UK seems to be saying we want the EU to abide by this part (fishing) but equally weāre prepared to ignore that part (NI).
I do wonder how much of this comes back to the fundamental issue of trust?
I knew you and I were kindred spirits.
Great music video, that one!!

Heās a great story-teller, Billy.
Aw shucks
Look everyone Iāve got an Uptown SBYM
Would you, do you trust this Johnson government?
Thereās massive frustration on behalf of the French government as as they say they have been negociating for 10 months and the UK and Channel islands havenāt budged. As soon as the licence deadline is reached UK fishing vessels wonāt be able to off load their catches at French ports from what I can gather. (P.S it might only be 1% of the UKs total catch but what is it for channel fishermen? (I estimate about 12% or more and due to the market could be increasing).
Someone really needs to tell @SBYM about it
I donāt trust them one bit. If Johnson told me the sky was blue Iād honestly go and check.
I suspect the EU feels the same. When youāve been on the end of trash talk for 20years or whatever, when it actually come the time to agree something amicable youāre going to be pretty wary. Then thereās the whole NI thing then Iād say things are strained. EU probably pulled a stunt or two as well.
Sadly I donāt know enough of the fishing industry or the argument here to really say whatās right or wrong. To be honest it feels petty but the likes of Farage blew it up into this huge balloon. Is this perhaps one way the UK can put some pressure back on the EU to change other things?
At the same time, the French are not being very diplomatic.
Its not every day you hear a world leader, call another one a liar.
I have little time for Scott Morrison or Johnson. But I have some doubts that the current strategy is the best way to make friends and influence people.
Hilarious. If the French had a legitimate grievance theyād raise it under the dispute resolution procedures rather than go cry to Mummy that Albionās being mean to them.
Not with fishing. Itās a big deal for France as I mentionned before because of the up coming 2022 Presidentials. Macron has to be seen as standing up for the west of France.
Weāre not hearing much from countries that are much more reliant on channel fishing than France, Denmark for example however Iām sure that France has at least quiet support from northern coastal nations.
Personally I would quite enjoy this petty squabble however the looming Presidential looks like serious business now and I feel the UK is playing a dangerous game here. Macron is a much better option than Zemmour who is the only one who can benefit from this if the UK and France can not sort something out.
I said before France is at itās wits end over this, for 10 months they have been negociating and now itās crunch time.
We all know Johnson is a liar, thatās been his career.
Macron isnāt a politian or a diplomat, Iām not surprised by this comment heās always been very franck.
Sorry, this video was referring to the issue with the submarines (Australia pulling out of the deal with France because well strategically it was better to align with the US). If anything it simply underlines to Australians it was the right decision.
A project was plagued by delays, costs doubling, issues of sharing technology it should have come as no shock Australia pulled out. There was even a independent audit because of all the failing (it was highly critical and highlighted the need for contingency planning). The risk was debated in both Australian and French parliaments six months ago.
I fully expect the Australian PM probably gave the impression that despite issues that it would go ahead. At the same time it should have been no surprise that they pulled out of the contract. Its somewhat disingenuous some of the French noises say that this was completely out of left field. The language reminds me very much of the Tory party. Betrayed, cheated, lied. You say he isnāt a politician, but I think he is being exactly that. My perspective is its bit of an embarrassment and this is deflection (gaslighting). As you mentioned before its an election year.
As I said I have no love for Scot Morrison or Johnson. They are both embarrassments. However France also needs to self reflect at its own failings. Its not black and white. More a very murky grey.
why do people need to feel like they need to apologise prior to suggesting a conservative politician has the right end of an issue?
'im no fan of insert name here, but on this occassionā¦"
its a weird phenom. hardly ever hear anyone do similar in reversed situationsā¦
Much of politics is tribal, no different to football. On face value I am more likely to believe the worst of Johnson/Scott Morrison. If someone told me they had fucked up. I would probably go, yeah I could see that. My natural inclination (and first reaction) was that France was probably rightly pissed.
The more I read, I more I realised my first impression was wrong. I was not apologising, just highlighting my perspective was not from a tribal politics perspective. I guess you donāt see the reverse that much, as generally leaders in English speaking countries have been right-leaning in recent times.
I have been highlighting some other conservative MPs without pretext (Rory Strewart, Ken Clarke) its just the ones I have a very low opinion of I guess I pretext it
And yetā¦
The sheer hypocrisy of the man clearly knows no bounds.
It is a sad indictment of the British public that they elected this blustering charlatan.
