UK Politics Thread (Part 1)

Why don’t you provide an alternative translation then to add to the others already provided by fluent French speakers?

Because I don’t need to.

The correct translation is freely available online, for those who aren’t too stubborn/ stupid to search for it.

Which are you?

Loads of translations have already been provided. Even those who are bilingual have differed ever so slightly but not to any meaningful extent.

None of them support your denial…so over to you…

I hate to say I told you so, but I said during the campaign that the EU would ensure the UK took an absolute beating from leaving the EU.

‘No, no, no’, I was told ‘they need our cars’

Of course the EU will do their outmost to ensure Britain crash and burn on leaving. What does a thriving Britain do for fledging exit campaigns across Europe.

Ah, but it’s a bit late to start trying to add to any damage isn’t it? If the French don’t think the TCA is damaging the UK enough, then tough shit.

Speak for yourself.

Pretty sure we all agreed that the EU would make it as difficult as possible.

It is what it is. I just remember a big row in which the remainers were confidently assured that the EU wouldn’t dare fuck us over because cars or something. Looks like that’s another one to bite the dust.

By the way, I don’t think the letter is quite as incendiary as you, and the right wing press think it is. It is clearly noting that it’s important to highlight the damage Brexit has done to Britain. That doesn’t necessarily mean the EU is out to cause that damage. Knowing that much of their readership can barely speak English never mind French, it’s probably safe for the the gutter press to make mischief like this.

…loudly, while pointing at things and adding ‘le’ to the front of random nouns.

I don’t need to. The translations already presented in this thread (not just by me) from commentators who are either French or claiming fluency in French is the basis of my position.

So far, nothing has been posted that supports your interpretation and you even refuse to provide your own, apparently expert, translation. That’s pretty poor.

Typically, you just resorted to ad hominem.

People can draw the obvious inferences.

Regardless of the translations, it’s not that bad really is it? It just basically a comment that notes that the EU wants to make its citizens aware of what a shitshow Brexit is.

Of course they do. Big deal.

The issue is that it betrays a lack of good faith from the French side to applying the terms of the TCA as they apply here, or in refusing to follow the clearly set out dispute resolution procedure that the TCA prescribes.

I’ve read many of Kopstar’s posts, I can’t see a problem. But then, this is why I don’t discuss politics, it usually results in people falling out.

I think I’ve found out what’s really happening here

And there’s a useful explanation of the UK’s reasoning here

OK lads let’s cool this off. We are getting irate about bloody fishing and a language semantics of a letter

It is nothing anyone in here should be getting pissed off about. We disagree all the time about interpreting what was meant when things are written in English

Both countries are playing politics. Let’s not pit ourselves against one another. Our disdain should be for leaders of both sides.

No more personal remarks, inciting or I will need to break out my red pen !!
