UK Politics Thread (Part 1)

Well, that’s my supplier gone.

What now? Does my electricity stop flowing? :joy:

Absolutely, just surprised they fell before a lot of the other companies as they are the 7th largest firm in the industry.

Reading their website, they say that a year ago energy prices were about 50p a therm, the cap is set at around 70p a therm and the prices this year are about £4 a therm! Incredible.

No, you’ll keep receiving it and your tariff remains the same… Any cash you have with the company is protected. Bulb is still in administration, so stays functioning as a business. Once it is sold off or closed down and the accounts moved to another firm you will be notified and your account moved across.

The main advice right now is do nothing. Martin Lewis says if you do try to change, you are very unlikely to get a similar deal and will probably have to pay 30% more.

Well, the carnage is largely confined to the downstream/distribution/retail sector, but still regulated by Ofgem. I don’t think the model of competition at the distribution level is inherently flawed, but if a society chooses that path, it needs to accept certain possible outcomes - and mitigate them directly if they aren’t acceptable. Simply denying that they can happen is a disaster, and that is what is happening.

Yes, hence my edit. Just saw the brief mention in a morning summary email, then went and found the stories that were at least 45 minutes earlier.

I think this ‘consumer suffers no harm’ idea is actually a huge part of the problem. Any space in the market that there might have been for a supplier that hedged properly and would actually be able to continue to supply indefinitely in these market conditions is squeezed out by least-cost offers that consumers were able to take, knowing there was no risk to their choice. The idea that the tariff can stay the same is simply absurd.

Bulb is big enough that Ofgem is likely to face a fight assigning that load. No one wants those customers right now, they are a hole in which to pour money.

i’d missed the Peppa Pig bit but here it is in all its cringing glory. Michael Spicer would have a field day at the moment.

Arcuri apparently kept a diary. I wonder if we’ll get the excerpts in a Sunday newspaper soon.

My first introduction to the word ‘clustercringe’ and it seems like an ideal situation for it.
In fact it is the perfect word for the Johnson regime.

I hope nobody’s slating Peppa Pig World. It (and Paultons) is great for young kids.

Peppa Pig rocks. I’ve not been to Peppa Pig World though.

You need to add Folly Farm to your list.

I was somewhat relieved for you all when I found out it was an actual place, not a BoJo state of mind.

It’s terrible and can lead to behavioural problems. No wonder captain knob head used it as a reference.
