UK Politics Thread (Part 1)

Way out of line mate. Leave somebody’s family who you disagree with out of it.

Your problem is that you are failing to acknowledge that the way you are able to view the world, process information, and make decisions is completely different to someone else.

The entire basis of your approach to this whole argument is that you can make good decisions so why can’t they. Well, as I’ve tried to explain hopelessness, despair, disempowerment and stress leads to terrible decision making.

Your response to that was that it was just ‘excuses’. That’s a pathetic way to respond, but entirely predictable. If you are already lacking empathy and have decided that people are basically worthless, obviously it’s going to feel like excuses.

The fact remains that poverty is like like a vicious circle. The worse it gets the harder it is to get out if because the very act of being impoverished makes the kind of decision making needed to escape poverty so much harder.

It’s easy to sneer and judge from a position of comfort, but until you have experienced crushing hopeless poverty it’s just ignorance.

As you are fond of proverbs the one that is apt in this case is to only judge people after you’ve walked a mile in their shoes. Or as I believe they would have said in Rome et ambulate in altera mille viri calceamenta,

Why? He is applying a blanket statement to millions of parents, with zero evidence nor knowledge of circumstance.

I can go off the evidence of what they produced based on his posts on this forum, which some recently are horrific. Who is out of line?

The poor don’t get nine paragraphs to set out their circumstances before you come to a judgement on them, it is a little ironic you feel both entitled to and need a wall of text.

I prefer Pratchett, again. You can’t judge a man till you’ve walked a mile in his shoes. You might then understand him but at least you have his shoes.

As a matter of interest, despair, poverty, depression, the kind of things you get when bailiffs are knocking on your door? A child dying? Having Christies on friends and family? Yep, been there. I’ve been at the bottom of the well. Never been homeless granted but there’s time yet.

And I broke the keyboard out specially…

Did you read my post? Would my simple idea help? Yes and yes is far more productive I’m sure you’ll agree.

You’ll point me to a horrific post of mine?

Right on cue

Because you make it personal no need for that

Yeah, that’s one course of action. I’m sure someone who has suggested preventing people breeding in the best interests of others wouldn’t have a problem with us preventing him posting to the benefit of others.

I have to ask a question, would it be too absurd to assume that we may have members here on TAN whose children are dependent on this food? That there might be someone here who feels personally offended by this discussion?

Did I miss the point where anybody suggested it was a bad idea to feed children???

I didn’t suggest it, I asked if it was a topic for discussion. Two different things. And there I suspect is where we have our problem. Quote any post of mine that says as you suggest and I’ll apologise. Thanks.

Oh I’m not crying. But I think the way I engage can be a little (ha) provocative and antagonistic at times. I’ll come back full bore at anybody but equally quite like the place and don’t want to get a ban.

Why would you suggest it as a topic if you didn’t think it should be discussed? You don’t get away with cloaking your horrible views behind a cheap rhetorical trick.

Can I ask if giving you the boot is something we should discuss? You understand I’m not suggesting it, I’m just suggesting it as a topic for discussion.

Ben Bradley has the face of a man who would have joined the BNP if the conserverative party wasn’t quite as right wing as it’s become.

I honestly don’t know the guy.

What does astound me is that he honestly thought that those comments wouldn’t be inflammatory in any way whatsoever.

The disconnect between these people and reality is astounding. I’m honestly shocked by it.

We’ve now had poisonous and horrible with regard my views. Base level of social safety net, feeding poor kids and a clever scheme to engage parents into cooking wholesome food. Granted the IQ post was a little OTT… But I stand by the death penalty for utterly horribly guilty people.

Can we just laugh at United in 30 mins please?

As per my previous, I accept that I can be antagonistic at times. But I see the arse and of life far too often and the softly softly approach does not seem to be the best solution IMHO.
