UK Politics Thread (Part 2)

I’m trying to work out who the comments were aimed at. She seems to have stopped just short of calling him “coconut”. I can think of lots of unpleasant things to say about Kwarteng and none of them relate to his race.

Watch it get spun into “Labour has a problem”. Also, the who to vote for was a more general comment in that all politicians are out of touch (to varying degrees) and so → Who to vote for?

As @Mascot (if I recall correctly), this is mostly used for people to justify why they’re voting for the right-wing parties, despite the supposed sins of the other parties not being even close to being as large or significant.

ftr the record I ‘liked’ Klopptimists post by accident. While I would prefer that Starmer would not write articles for the rag, it’s not ‘staggering’ that he did and I’d still prefer to vote for someone who did than, for example, someone with Boris Johnson (in particular) or Liz Truss’ relationship history or someone who may or may not have fucked a dead pig etc.

Contemporary comments, well done. A Liverpool fan voting for somebody who’s PAID by that paper for writing for them. Wow.

If May, Boz, Truss did it, they’d be rightly destroyed on here. But it’s OK, Starmer isn’t as bad as the Tories. Hmmmm

Well, for a start he hasn’t burdened taxpayers with a bill of many billions to keep fat cats in luxury; he hasn’t destroyed the value of the national currency; he isn’t deliberately running down the NHS.

Will you all please stop with this bollocks. If you believe it, you must also believe that they’re not particularly efficient nor swift at it or maybe it’s just an absolute myth?

I know several people who work for the NHS. Every single one of them, and their colleagues, say the same thing.

You over-state Britain’s influence in the conflict. And are reading too much Daily Mail if you think life-long pacifist Corbyn is more of a friend to Russia than Johnson with his oligarch bffs

I won’t buy The Sun, won’t look at it, and avoid all content generated by its journalists.

But only ‘staggering’ thing here is that you expect a man who wants to be the next Prime Minister (or maybe the next but one, at the rate the Tories are burning through them) to boycott it on principle.

Whether we like it or not, The Sun has a huge readership and is a key means of getting the message out to the people Starmer needs to win over. These avenues are few and far between, given the way much of the press has become ludicrously partisan. He simply does not have the luxury of righteous indignation on this issue.

Suppose the question is would I do it? The obvious answer, and not one that in all honesty I had to think that much about, is yes of course I would. I’d hold my nose while I did so, but you have to be pragmatic when you are the leader of a political party.

There is no suggestion in that article that Starmer was paid, by the way.

I don’t read any newspapers. Corbyn’s hostility towards Nato is well known and long standing.

Given Tory ministers who have been responsible for the NHS have literally written and contributed to books detailing exactly how to run down the NHS and prime it for privatisation, I’m confused why you think they aren’t

You’ll be linking the evidence to this I presume.

Apologetics at their finest. We both know many (most) on here would go nuts if Truss did it. See what I mean about the left supporting their leaders regardless?

I’m trying to cook dinner at the minute. And then have to get the kid from footy - I’ll do my best, but it might take a while.

Spent the day fitting gutters (as you do) picking up from dance later. See you tonight

What do mean if Truss did it? Conservatives have absolutely no problem engaging with the Sun.

I’d rather Starmer didn’t talk to the Sun, or rather, I’d prefer that the Sun didn’t still effectively gatekeep a huge swathe of working class voters Starmer has to win over.

I’m sorry mate, but taking all the shit that the Tories have been unleashing on the country over the last decade and setting that against Starmer writing for the Sun is just whataboutism. And not particularly good whataboutism.

Here is one straightaway. I’ll see if I can find anymore. From memory I think Jeremy Hunt had also done something similar

The sale of our house fell through today due to the buyer’s mortgage offer being removed, so we start at day zero. Again.

Bit more on Jeremy Hunt, quite a few others also involved in this, Like Gove and Kwarteng.

Good article on privatising of the NHS more generally.
