Big difference though if it’s skilled workers we are allowing to actually work here to the benefit of the nation.
Just saying.

So we’re ok with immigrants in a limited and specific way?
Actually it’s fair enough, I agree the UK needs an immigration policy and control but it doesn’t solve small boats in the channel and we didn’t have to leave the EU to do anything about it.
Sorry off track on Truss pouring the UK down the gutter.
Good grief, Truss suggesting that Sturgeon should mirror her policy in Scotland.
Seems like it will only be a short time before Scottish independence gets serious again. Economic security was probably one of the major restraining factors, but the sheer unseriousness of the British government now eliminates that. The late Queen would have also been an impediment, it it not at all clear that Charles has inherited that good will.
The idea was that the uk would be able to pick who they wanted from anywhere in the world. If the government needs to increase immigration at this point then something must not have gone as planned.
As someone who has gone through that process and dealt with UKVI, I would say rather confidently that anyone who has alternatives would not choose this country. The trainwreck of a visa application process is bad enough.
We’re equally in need of ‘unskilled’ labour too…
Just saying.
Let’s hope this can at the very least, hold until an election.
Yeah it was a nightmare for my wife to get to the UK even though we were married. If nothing else it is super expensive.
After years of being scapegoated and victimised as the root of all the country’s ills , it’s hardly surprising that foreigners aren’t flocking to help us out now in our hour of need.
I’m sensing a theme here …
… with 98%, the other 2% were shot …
Yeah we’d have free childcare, free internet, higher wages and nationalised railways. And the super-rich would be taxed 50% to pay for it.
Nightmare
Truss apparently to hold emergency meetings to try to restore credibility. I suspect she is about to learn that that doesn’t happen with markets. As long as she is PM, the £ and gilt will be discounted, and UK interest rates will be higher. The City may have liked what they heard last week, but this week she is a multi-billion pound liability.
Easy fix the UK can just leave the markets they can call it BREXFAST.
I hope she gets pushed into a corner and falls on her sword. I don’t know. The idea of the longest reigning monarch dying during the term of the shortest reigning PM is a juxtaposition I really want to see. Plus it will likely mean a GE where Tories will get annihilated.
You feel it should result in a GE but it won’t. Truss or any new PM will hang on for the term.
One thought I’ve had. Has anyone heard anything from Brexit Hard Man Steve Baker during all of this? He’s a bit of an ERG spokesperson and seems oddly quiet at this time when he was hugely vocal about Boris.
