Which leads directly to a pet peeve of mine with the English and the Americans and their nonsense use (and not use) of their own language.
This is of course the same we would do on Norwegian tv as in this German news story (say report the slurs and report what they said that was actually “bad”). I have always had big problems with the Anglo “beeps” and the pretend you don’t say the word inside your mind thing. It is stupid and insults intelligence.
Also leads to absolute shit reporting like this:
One is not told what he actually said. So the entire article is meaningless and British media is full of this nonsense, where you do not write out swear words aloud. It is the same in the US, there it is almost as pathetic, they write and even say (!!!) “the N-word” (which probably is nigger or negro, but you actually have to guess ) , “The F-word” (obviously fuck, everyone who reads the sentence says fuck inside their mind while reading it) and other such absolute nonsense sensibility reporting.
I will never get it and I will never respect it.
Major digression, but it’s just so hard to respect. If someone says something vile, you obviously must report what that person said, maybe with a warning of strong language and if you want, even an explanation of why it is wrong to say. But you must say it…

In short because the terms and conditions of the leadership race are set by the 1922 Committee who the people within the party who MPs rely on to lead/ organise these things.
The last race began at the end of the parliamentary term so having it over the summer holidays wasn’t seen as a problem. Having a longer window gave members plenty of time to consider and then make their choice.
Now they are faced with a budget at the end of October and want to avoid as much media focus on the race as possible. Much of what candidates said will still be in people’s memories so they shouldn’t need any more time really - the only issue is if the voting for members is online whether they all have access…
