UK Politics Thread (Part 2)

So are you also against access ramps, Braille for the blind and any other assistance to minorities?

I know blind people, disabled people etc. They are requirements. An inclusive toilet just isnā€™t.

You are Jeremy Clarkson and I claim my Ā£5!

My tone is a reflecyion of the tone that others take to me. I only have this problem with a few people, who never seem to understand whyā€¦ Perhaps itā€™s the complete lack of self-awareness in these people.

Are you genuinely comparing poor parenting to sexual violence?

EDIT: Just saw your reply to @Klopptimist, but it was ridiculous precisely because theyā€™re not comparable. Congratulations that you managed to break out of that cycle, but if you refuse to understand that many people donā€™t get the opportunity to see something different that they can learn from, or that they might just be so traumatised from their experiences that they canā€™t see any different.

Would making toilets all inclusive in order to help transgender women feel more accepted not lead to cis females feeling uncomfortable.

I donā€™t know as Iā€™m neither. I do know that I donā€™t want the government to invest tens of millions in making a tiny fraction more comfortable.

One thing. Iā€™ve often seen men in washrooms doing more than washing their hands after a wee. Shaving, body washing etc. Naked to the waist. Would women want to see that in unisex bathrooms? Iā€™d imagine a lady or two over the years has has to do similar and maybe more (as a man might). Needs must when the devil vomits in your kettle. Toilets are not just for hand washing and checking oneā€™s hair.

I donā€™t know about you, but that makes me want unisex bathrooms all the more.

I get that point but in a factory? Where people work hard and sweat? Not every business can afford nice showers. Fact is that bodily functions take place in bathrooms.

All the more reason for that.

Yes but youā€™re not taking a shit in front of them are you? Some things are behind closed doors for a reason, I donā€™t think you disagree with that. I disagree with the idea that shaving belongs in public.

Strangely, I only find a couple of people on here objectionable, and itā€™s all because of their superior than thou attitude.

The comparison, albeit poor and explained as such, was to point out that ā€œBut it happened to meā€ doesnā€™t cut it with most decent people.
Hence the question asking if it was an excuse

Well, do you accept the suggestion I offered as to why this was the case?

That you lack self awareness?
Sure.

Good to know you actually care about the debate.

I would agree with you, but itā€™s always worth noting that this is also the case for a lot of male rapists. Many had a terrible childhood, many were abused. I say this only because I rarely see empathy for male rapists. People usually gives them little mercy or understanding socially. But yeah, humans are complex beings and we are not born cruel. There are often complex reasons for how we behave and how we treat others. Of course, the odd person is a sadist for inexplicable reasons, but that is usually not the norm.

Just to make it clear, I am not trying to make a moralistic judgement of anything here. There are some acts that society finds repulsive and hard to forgive, particularly socially. In some ways that may be healthy (deterrence, norms of what is acceptable and not, as well as sense of justice for the wronged person and simply because people find it repulsive and unforgivable) in some cases perhaps not. In any case very complex case that I donā€™t want to comitt a lot of my brain to now. But I just find it important to note that there is a clear norm to be very harsh and comdemning on those who have comitted rape as adults and they usually donā€™t get the much empathy or understanding no matter the reason that led them to doing what they eventually did. So in that context, I believe in equality so transpersons who did similar acts to males should perhaps not be given more leway than the next person, since itā€™s objectively hard to say those persons are ā€œbrokenā€ for more understandable reasons than the next person. Difficult discussion though so I donā€™t have anything more to say about this.

Not sure if they mean the picture or the prick.

Either would work.

I dare anyone to argue that Rishi isnā€™t an improvement on Boris.

At least heā€™s not breaking any big lawsā€¦
