UK Politics Thread (Part 2)

Not here, whole family make @Mascot look like Thatcher.

Just slightly. I found the test kind of hilarious tbh.

Stopped answering when religion came into it.

Definitely aimed at a US audience, so seems kind of useless when talking about fixed personality traits.

I might steer clear of Flobs in the future. ( )

I saw one of these surveys a while back and one of the questions refered to whether I thought ā€œAntifaā€ was a problem. I had to look it up. Itā€™s short for anti-fascist. I mean generally I would have thought that itā€™s the ā€œfascistā€ bit which most people have a problem with.

Though I suspect itā€™s my interpretation of the wording of some of the questions that has pushed it that high.

Interesting that you had to look it up, is it not very common in the UK?

Indubitably. Itā€™s just that there happens to be a particular association. Not saying itā€™s causative in any way.

What I did find refreshing about the book is that Altemeyer is constantly at pains to emphasise that the results are mostly just correlations, and I thought he explained quite well the limitations of psychological studies.

What perceived superiority? I was simply clarifying where the dividing lines lie for me.

Canā€™t help you if your personal vendetta against me prevents you from seeing thatā€¦

Isnā€™t it quite an American thing, the recent use of the term at least? I know I started hearing about it because of the 2017 Charlottesville terrorist running people over at the protests.

Funny how being anti-fascist is seen as pejorative in some circlesā€¦

Iā€™d heard of the phrase but wasnā€™t sure what it meant exactly. There are anti-fascist movements in the UK but they tend to have different names. I actually live in Germany now, I think being antifa is a residency requirement.

Antifa is more of a loose organisation/movement and has historically been far left, so kind of goes beyond just the literal meaning of anti-fascist.

I donā€™t think itā€™s self-published, just available for free. I find that there are quite a few really useful academic books out there available for free, which is great. I think there were a few statistics texts that I got for free, along with others I got when Cambridge University Press were doing a giveaway during the pandemic.

E-books only however.

Over here they are extreme leftwing terrorists who have no problems with using violence to get their way.

A bunch of assholes IMHO.

Thatā€™s Tory domain.

  1. I have no vendetta against you. Youā€™re not relevant enough in my life to influence my feelings in either a positive or negative way.
  2. You quoted me, then posted a very patronising illustration of the difference between opinion and fact.

NB:- Wrongly at that. Itā€™s only your opinion than Nunez creates lots of chances, others might say he creates a few chances

Well yes, considering that you were the one who raised the point.

Had anyone else raised the point I would have quoted them.

Statistically he does, heā€™s one of the top in the league at creating chances. My wording of it might be poor but the facts are what they are.
