Why not no picture? Using the picture is directly insinuating that the government is encouraging child abuse. Smacking a child is not child abuse. Beating a child is.

Almost all online news stories are illustrated with a picture. You have taken one extremely bland picture of a disgruntled child to demonstrate that the BBC have an anti-government agenda even though I have shown you a similar story with a similar picture from the right-leaning Telegraph to demonstrate that this is simply standard editorial practice.
Do you expect the BBC to be simply reporting on how great and wonderful the government is in a similar manner to the DDR or North Korea? Maybe they could have shown a picture of a child being gleefully smacked by a smiling Tory minister whilst commenting on how wonderful his now rosy red buttocks are now feeling. Or maybe, that would have been a bit fucking strange.

It is, at pertinent moments in life. That moment isn’t a child being cheeky. It’s not a child being annoying. It’s not a child being grumpy in a supermarket. It’s when they are in danger or step massively out of line. Exactly what I had as a child.

I’m absolutely against smacking children. It’s unnecessary and it doesn’t work. It only serves to teach the child that violence is a means to an end.
Go back a few decades and you’ll hear the same arguments made about hitting women.

All and I mean ALL the people I know who are against smacking kids have dreadful trouble with discipline. I know they’re against it as they tend to tell me 7 seconds after telling me they’re vegan.
