UK Politics Thread (Part 3)

Looks like they are kicking off again

I think he got trounced in a by-election a few months before Channel 4 went on air. He was clearly breathing then. Definitely his fault. (Incidentally, I had to check his bio before posting that. He turns 70 next month. Seems very hard to believe).

I’m honestly astounded at how behaviour in Warrington seems to shape and inform the entire world. It’s clearly the epicentre of all things.

Warrington vegans are clearly a threat to world order.

I just learned something , so it wasn’t all in vain after all.

" Smacking is currently illegal in 63 countries, including Wales and Scotland. **In England and Northern Ireland, though, parents remain free to smack their children. . Typically, the main argument against banning parents from smacking their children is based on respecting parents’ rights."

Centre of the UK, ask Eileen Bilton. As we colonised most of the world. I consider that we live in a Warringtoncentric universe.

Nobody on here will admit to having behaviour problems with their kids (here and now) although I do remember somebody saying something similar once. Funny what sticks.

So come on, those against smacking, tell me your child / children are little angels and how you dealt with them reaching for something dangerous @ 18month old (you can’t hide everything otherwise you create more problems than you solve)

Or prove me wrong and say not giving a short sharp shock was a dreadful idea as they’re now 14 and basically feral.

If you’re waiting for the teachers to sort it out age 4/5 it’s already TOO FUCKING LATE.

Helps when your child is an utter joy who’s company is gorgeous. Guess how many bad behaviour reports we’ve had from high school, or detentions, or or or or :joy::joy::joy::joy::joy:

It’s also legal to shoot a welshman with a longbow within (or outside, damn legal technicalities) the walls of chester after 8pm possibly on a Sunday.

From a story on the BBC. No bias here then.

?? The serial killer leather gloves?

Erm……

Did a quick google search for academic study on smacking children.

But I suppose on balance, we do have to weigh that against everyone you know in Warrington.

Just to bring all the strands together, ie UK politics, the BBC, and corporal punishment, I want to pitch the beeb an idea for a reality tv show where members of the public get to smack government ministers.

It could be called ‘The People’s Punchbag’.

It would definitely be a hit

Aside from the flippant but accurate gif. statistics, research and figures can be made to say anything. As you know.

Apparently I own 1/2 a sheep just by living near @Noo_Noo

By all means feel free to disregard arguments that make you feel uncomfortable. That’s sort of what you do.

But the remains that the arguments for smacking children are exactly the same as the arguments for smacking women decades ago.

I think we’ll look back in thirty years with the same revulsion and horror at dinosaur parents smacking their kids as we currently look back at men justifying smacking their wives with comments like ‘it’s good for them’, ‘we’re not talking about excessive force’ and ‘it’s just a short sharp shock to let them know they’ve stepped put of line’.

Let’s go back to a comment you made.

Define massively step out of line. Is your massively step out of line the same as my massively step out of line? Is there a national agreement on what stepping massively out of line means? Do parents get to decide what massively step out of line means?

The bottom line is that nobody hits their kid for their kids sake. They do it for them. They do it because they are exasperated, angry and at their wits end. They did it because that the what they learned from their parents.

And every prick thinks they can stay in control and remain on top of their anger. Until they can’t. Every parent who has ever ended up seriously hurting their child thought they were in control.

Indeed.

I think when you are at the point of dismissing academic studies on the basis that you can prove anything with statistics, you’ve basically lost the argument.

And time on my hands? I literally did a Google search on ‘academic studies on smacking children. Scrolled through two or three pages worth of studies of reports of studies, and there wasn’t one that suggested that smack children is beneficial.

Beyond the pale.

No it isn’t.

These a funny stories of arcane laws that were never repealed, but they are never true.

Still doesn’t prove the BBC is lefty. That’s some rant though.

Bring it on I say. The sooner we get an excuse to invade the better. Warrington will be close to first on the list, mainly due to its geographical location of course.

I genuinely thought you were taking the piss when you came up with this line, then saw further down it was a quote from @Klopptimist.

You can have Warrington.
