UK Politics Thread (Part 3)

You think that having Boris Johnson as PM hasn’t given you that hint already?

What a surprise?

I’m not sure if anyone else is concerned about this, certainly seems to be few people who care about the threat of COVID any more.

It’s running wild again where I live. No-one that arsed.

I don’t think we could enact mitigation measures now even if it came back with an absolute vengeance. Another thing to thank the Tories for.

I detest the tories and what they have done to the UK, but they can’t be blamed for Covid fatigue. That is an international phenomenon.

To a certain extent, but I don’t think it’s arguable that successive Conservative failures to abide by the rules they were imposing haven’t damaged the public’s goodwill towards efforts to control the virus.

It’s the same in France. A girl in my daughter’s class came down with it yesterday. Plenty of warnings but the only people wearing masks are the ones who work in the pharmacies.

I also think it’s fair to say that certain people gave a lot of mileage to COVID conspiracy theories. They were never and still haven’t been shut down despite being presented evidence to the contrary.

The messaging was seriously screwed up and only fed those “theories”

But in countries where the messaging was all about science and safety those factions also gained traction, ie Germany, NZ…

We will now live in a world where Covid is a fact of life. We have vaccines and will take our chances.

Not great, but just another part of the shitshow.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing. Doing fuck all about COVID “could” have been the best option. One of the guys at football on Tuesday tested positive the day after. Why people bother testing now is beyond me. Most of us have been sniffling for a few days. I just don’t care now and that’s nothing to do with TFTs.

When hole, stop digging is appropriate here I think.

Yes, very much along those lines. No secret that the alternative science originated in countries where the messaging was “mixed”

I’ve had 3 vaccines, won’t be having a fourth.

Why not? Have you had a bad reaction?

Because there are still something like two million clinically vulnerable people who need you to?

They should have one of the thousand jabs then. That, apparently, was the whole point. The thing is now a strain of cold, about as dangerous too.

had my two. Doesn’t stop transmission, doesn’t stop getting sick. risk of causing heart issues (this is confirmed by medical research, 1 in 60 odds). not a chance I’m getting another jab.

Care to evidence this?

Myocarditis (with overall rate around 1.62%) was shown to be the most common post-COVID19 immunization cardiac event. More than 90% of post-COVID19 vaccination myocarditis occurred after receiving mRNA vaccines (Moderna & Pfizer-BioNTech), but the report of this event was less in the case of vector-based vaccinations and/or inactivated vaccines. Myocarditis was reported more commonly in men and following the second dose of the immunization. Takotsubo cardiomyopathy (TTC) was reported after mRNA (more commonly) and vector-based vaccinations, with no case report after inactivated vaccines. When mRNA and vector-based vaccinations were used instead of inactivated vaccines, a greater frequency of vaccine-induced thrombotic thrombocytopenia (VITT) and pulmonary emboli (PE) was reported. Myocardial infarction/cardiac arrest was recorded in those beyond the age of 75 years.

Fucking hell, mate.
