UK Politics Thread (Part 3)

I really doubt he meant the city. I have never heard that. Kenny and Fergie got on well and Fergie offered to send players over to help with the aftermath of Hillsborough.

I will, thanks again !

Ah okay then…

Saarland? I now live in Emsland. My wife is German and we made the decision to ā€œleave on our own termsā€ after Brexit.

Yeah, Saarbrücken to be precise. Thats where the SB in StanSB comes from

That was the simple analogy used. Murdoch wanted to punish the city for not kowtowing to its Tory overlords and he saw the fall of Liverpool Football Club (and Everton, who were the second best team in the land at that time) as a way of doing this.

It’s often forgotten that he actually tried to buy Manchester United himself but was unable to do so and therefore created a new league which that team purely coincidentally started to win every year.

Why did he hold such a grudge against Liverpool ? Because it was traditionally ā€œleftā€ ?

1.FC Saarbrücken played Meppen away last week. Used to love the club but cant be bothered these days - dont even know the reult

ok, makes sense, i just didnt get the timeline right

I think until the late 60’s Liverpool had been predominantly Conservative. I’m not sure what led to the switch but by the 80’s it was very left wing and in decline as its traditional industries faded. I think the population halved during that decade as people left to find work/ new opportunities.

Will be very interesting to see how the Windsors fare from here.

Not sure yesterday was the shining moment they would have hoped for.

I’m neither pro or anti royal. At the end of the day, they’re just people, and I generally see more pros than cons with continuing with them, though I would prefer they started modernizing and not wasting money on personal bagpipe players etc.

More than anything though, I’m bored of them. Bored of hearing about Harry and wish he had just fucked off like he said he was going to. Bored with the media obsession. Bored of it all, so I’m done with them now. Bored with the booing of the anthem, bored of the faux outrage at the booing of the anthem. Sing or don’t.

Just curious, has there ever been any monarchy in this world who advocated for a time line to abolish themselves?

Fair enough.

I would bin them as soon as I could were it up to me.

The inequality in this country is breathtaking, and the deification of a system that depends on inequality would be a great place to start.

And the next troglodyte who tells me they generate more than they cost can GAGF.

Last time I checked, it was free to go and slobber on the gates of Buckingham Palace like some fawning teenager.

Imagine if you could charge Ā£20 quid for the pleasure of walking around inside…

Yep.
Coz all the tourists arrive and leave on the same day, don’t spend a penny, and contribute fuck all to the economy

Where did I say that?

Christ you spout nonsense sometimes.

Or considerably more if you could spend the night there?

I’ve always found the ā€œtourists mean moneyā€ argument rather strange. If a monarchy was such a money spinner for a nation why haven’t every other nation invested in the idea?

The irony.

Maybe I’m wrong and that huge white elephant Versailles should be a warning to us all.

Struggling to keep the doors open there…
