UK Politics Thread (Part 3)

Yes, it’s so easy isn’t it you prize idiot. What an original line of thinking that nobody has spouted before.

WTF? I thought NZ was a civilised country?

Edit: read the whole post next time - realise that you were referring to the NHS. Gee the UK really has gone to shite since Thatcher.

Just as a juxtapose to the previous comments, I have always had positive experiences with our local medical centre, and never had to wait more than a few days for an appointment. Hearing other people’s experiences does make me think it would be silly to ever move!

Same. I’ve actually become mates with my GP. Also, he’s a fellow Red!

Is “train” another word for brainwash or enslave?

So, you are his mate because he is a Red :sunglasses:

More smoke and mirrors from the Tory government. Keep the hate flowing in order to distract from the underlying issues in the UK of economic inactivity.

First Brexit alienated EU skilled workers who fled the country, which needed to be replaced by skilled non-EU workers. The point being that skilled migrants, regardless of which part of the world they come from, are propping up the entire fucking country.

They will continue to avoid the subject of economic inactivity as they would then shine a light on their staunchest supporters (Boomers who made a killing on the housing market and have retired early because of it) or their handling of covid (dramatic increase in working age population who are long-term sick since 2020).

Are the changes to personal pensions at play as well - e.g. those in their 50s with big pots retiring and drawing down the capital?

Apparently the Tories poor performance at the local elections was down to voter ID:

The former cabinet minister said the policy – which saw voters required to have photo ID when voting at England’s local elections – had made it harder for elderly Tories to vote and “upset a system that worked perfectly well”.

Speaking at the National Conservatism conference on Monday, Mr Rees-Mogg said: “Parties that try and gerrymander end up finding their clever scheme comes back to bite them – as dare I say we found by insisting on voter ID for elections.”

“We found the people who didn’t have ID were elderly and they by and large voted Conservative, so we made it hard for our own voters and we upset a system that worked perfectly well,” he added.

I think the most astonishing thing is that they now actively admit in public that they try to rig elections.

Wow. This should be massive.

Not sure how much training would be required to pick fruit.
I picked potatoes every year of my early teens and got no training.

Problem here has always been the payment on offer hasn’t it?

Greedy farmers been getting their fruit picked for buttons, with none of those buttons going back into the UK economy.

Now they have to pay an honest wage for an honest days work and still can’t attract employees.
Maybe make the payment a bit more honest?

I meant training in similar terms to training a dog but your points are valid. I would however say that supermarkets often give farmers a shit deal for their produce as well. Good for the consumer but rubbish for anyone working in that chain.

Travel and accommodation is also factor I’d guess that doesn’t sit well with many.

I suppose you could question whether we were over reliant on that labour source?

Ooh, forgot to mention that i wholly expect the government to go after the “millions” of benefit cheats that apparently exist. Cue looking out for people in wheelchairs in the fields.

The National Conservatism Conference is like a parade of Ghouls, trying desperately to outghoul each other on matters like ‘what is the most ridiculous thing we can blame on the left’ (Miriam Cates leading the field with ‘Low Birthrate’) ‘who can be the most accidentally anti-Semitic’ (Suella Braverman who doesn’t appear to understand what Cultural Marxism is) and ‘What is most hilarious non-sequitur uttered in seriousness’ (Suella again, while railing against ‘Experts who think they know best’)

Absolutely telling that for the Tories, they decided the least worst option was to admit to rigging elections over admitting that Labour have the wood over them at the moment. They know there are no repercussions whatever they do.

An utterly failed system.

I’ll invite you to close your eyes and imagine, just for a moment, what the reaction in media would be had anyone in the Labour Party used the phrase ‘Cultural Marxism’ in a speech.

A little surprised that opposition parties haven’t called them out as fascists that much. From my dodgy memory only the SNP have done so (Mhairi Black). Happy to be corrected on that.

Not just it’s also about locality, needs a work force that’s local or mobile (mobility joins with wages). essentially ‘voyagers’ that can set up on site for the duration of the season has a greater viability.
The communities in rural areas have changed a lot since feudal times!

I see NooNoo has covered this.
