Thanks Magnus for your reply. Let me say upfront that I always enjoyed reading your posts even if I don’t have your level of knowledge of the wars and happenings in your sphere of interest. They are usually fair and unbiased.
Of course just on this post alone, I can only say I understand all that you are saying in this post, and I know you don’t mean it that way, but just in case for others, yes I think I am pretty well educated and know these theories you put here well enough, though, as you can see, education means shit.
But I appreciate your post, as I said, I think it’s a fair and respectful response to my post which you don’t agree with with obviously but that is always fine.
You probably interpret my post reasonably close enough. But I have no response because I say just what I want to say. I hope that’s allowed in the western democracies. Which means I am ok with however people want to respond. I am not overly enthusiastic to be the moral beacon of righteousness on the internet, which some obviously make it a mission to be. So there, I will just leave it, and will respond or write something again when I feel like it.
Yes. They were unable to do what they wanted to because of this little thing they were dealing with, called reality. Some of what they were claiming was plainly bananas.
Yes. You missed the part where the pound had a massive fall after Brexit, which mitigated many of the effects, where the unemployment rise was masked by COVID, and the many incentives given by the government to avoid the car manufacturers leaving. If you can find a list of claims with sources that they were by the “Remain campaign” as opposed to individuals making individual claims, I’d be happy to investigate the claims and what happene in the aftermath of Brexit.
I think I have the awareness to understand my limits, and I know when I need to defer to expertise I don’t have. Brexit is a classic example of that. I don’t understand global economics and international trade, but everyone who can be called an expert on the subject is telling me to vote remain. My preference would be that we don’t deal with massive complex issues through referendums.
A lot of people read one fucking blog from a Google search and think they know everything.
My kids talk about Brexit tackles too, but my understanding is that it’s a hard, reckless revenge tackle that invariably causes yourself injury as well.
Labour in the 70s and 80s was about protecting workers’ rights and jobs. There are far better ways to earn a living than digging a dirty black hole and dying early from emphysema.
