UK Politics Thread (Part 4)

Yeah, I think you will get Farage.
Personally, I find that very problematic, downright sad. But it looks likely.

In other news (and in keeping with the theme of recent discussions), Nigel Farage saying someone used their position for personal gain is like Stephen Miller saying that bloke over there is a bit of a cunt.

If this Government falls, it will be the greatest example of incompetence in British political history, and that’s going some.
Starmer’s judgement has been wrong again and again. He will have blown a massive majority and a chance to correct years of Tory mismanagement and left the country to the same bunch of incompetents led by a fascistic charlatan.

The weird thing is that they technically might not, but the optics are vastly different.

That said I’m not in agreement with their current management of energy and water, but I’m also not in possession of everything that has lead them to those policy decisions.

The thing is. Starmer is smart. He is a barrister. Rayner not so.

What is it about the system that makes it all ineffective. Ok we knew Labour was tax and spend. Same old. But Conservative ( not saying Tory) have lost their way.

I am torn. I am free market. Child of Thatcher but not sure now. What’s clear is Labour is broken and should never be voted in again. Conservative had a huge chance with majority and wasted it. Now we get reform?

So how do we change it!? It’s not about change it’s about being elected. The current scandal shows what politics means. Self service.

Who wants to start a new party with me?

No thanks. I’m not one with don’t tax the wealthy, don’t spend either, but siphon off to your donors idea of politics.

It’s rampant free market capitalism that has brought Britain to its current situation. Sensible social democratic policies could have created an economy like the Nordics, but Thatcherism has led to the huge inequalities and resentment that see division and anger on the streets.

I just read the link from that article regarding the election for the Sennedd:

I think previously, they had a two vote system similar to the Scottish and German parliaments. This one is an interesting variation, because it stops people frigging the results by voting for a similar party on the second vote. It still discriminates against smaller parties and independents, because they would have to guarantee that they would have around 10% of the vote.

I’d be interested to know how it would apply UK wide, because at the moment, people tend to vote against the thing that they detest, rather than for the thing that they want.

I see that Starmer is still backing McSweeney.

It reminds me of what Arne said about KonatĆ© – he’s ā€œtoo much at the crime sceneā€. He will drag down the Starmer premiership.

I’ve been hearing, seeing that a few Labour or ex Labour MP’s are laying the blame for the current direction of the Labour party, including the purge of those that represent ā€œold Labourā€ at Mandelson’s feet.

Honestly, no idea if there’s any truth to it. Not good if it is. I’ve wondered where this current version of Labour has come from. I originally thought it was some homage to Blair and claiming the middle ground.

Hang on, you said you weren’t going to respond and let others do your talking…

This rhetoric is becoming boring. I always read people’s points, I have to because my views/opinions are usually contesting the popular opinion on here. A simple spelling mistake gets jumped on.

No shit Sherlock, you compared present day Britain to 1930’s Germany, swapped people of Jewish faith to Muslim faith, Neoliberalism, etc and suggested there is not a lot of difference - not a direct quote.
It was just a melodramatic statement on your behalf!
Maybe I was a bit melodramatic in my response, but the point still stands. Present day UK is not on the same level as 1930’s Germany and why single out the UK? Does your point include Germany and France, considering there large RW movements?

Isn’t that the approach of all parties?

Sigh
