UK Politics Thread (Part 4)

Elon Musk wants to rename the English Channel

Elon Musk’s row with the UK has deepened this week, with Brits left fuming over a yet another controversial proposal from Donald Trump’s billionaire “First Buddy”.

Musk, 53, took to X in an early morning post on Sunday to suggest the country give a new name to “the water that separates England and France”. The “water” - otherwise known as the English Channel - he suggested, should be known by an American name, instead of the one it has held for longer than the US has existed.

The billionaire appeared to suggest the English Channel should become the “George Washington Channel” by sharing a picture of the passage labelling it as such. The suggestion, as have many of his previous trolling attempts, did not go down well with British X users, many of whom roasted the billionaire in his own comments section.

Gilt treading slowly downward, back to where it was a month ago and likely to continue. I would say Reeves has managed through that crisis at this point.

Hasn’t he got better things to do?

Seems like being a fascist cunt is a full time gig.

The most revealing bit of his latest trolling is just how much the joke doesn’t work. I dont know I have ever seen someone make something so much a part of their personality that they are so bad at. He directly steals 95% of his material he uses for trolling, and the 5% he seemingly comes up with himself is desperately cringe worthy.

It is very easy to see at least a partial explanation for his twitter experience as being willing to pay money to force people to pay attention to him and laugh and his jokes.

It’s not called “The English Channel” anyway Musk - It’s called “La Manche”.

Government supporting new old Trafford. Is that good or bad? Okay bad. Biased.

Do you mean this?

While United would take responsibility for the stadium development, support from public bodies would be needed to unlock the wider regeneration opportunity. This would include improved transport infrastructure and housing around Old Trafford.

My understanding would be that they would promote upgrades to nfrastructure but United would pay for a new stadium themselves. There’s scant details on there.

Wonder if its anything to do with mr handwash…he seems to have a lot of say with MP’s and Government…

I seem to remember discussions on our new stadium also talking about upgrading transport links etc.

I cant remember where it went on where the financial liability would sit though. Anyone?

I think some if not all of the transport cost would have fallen on the club which i assume was why we didnt go with the option to expand that far?

In Utd’s case i expect that they wont have to given the planned regeneration angle.

There is also the probability that Manchester’s local government is probably keen on the idea while our’s was less so.

Maybe, my memory is very vague on it but i do remember discussing the issues with it.

Manchester mayor and scouser Andy Burnham on the BBC this morning called United the biggest club in world football.

Seeking re-election then Andy?
