UK Politics Thread (Part 5)

Something interesting happened in the Senedd these last few days.

A debate on Plaid’s child care proposals was underway. A motion was added noting that Reform have no child care proposals in their manifesto and there is clear evidence that improving access to child care would reduce child poverty. That lead to a further vote to cover Reforms “no plans”.

11 of the 34 Reform MP’s voted for it… :man_shrugging:

I think the bloke who suffered an attempted beheading and had one of his eyes gouged out survived mate.
Although I don’t think many people give a fuck.

Are they especially scared mate? More scared than ordinary native people who have had these fucking animals foisted upon them in ever increasing numbers?
I don’t suppose anyone will ask them though. Certainly not the gutless politicians who are more interested in spewing out worthless platitudes like “this isn’t who we are” instead of actually addressing people’s fears and doing anything about them.

Especially the bloke who the fucking animal tried to behead.

It’ll be the gullible dickheads mate. Imagine being outraged by some fucking animal trying to behead one of your community in the street?
Maybe if the spineless politicians actually did something about the root cause of the problem things wouldn’t escalate to the point they did.

This is a disaster. A letter so incredibly damning in what it actually says. It also clear that he really didn’t want to do this.

The UK has been kicking too many cans down the road for far too long. It is an impossible situation, not least because there is no social consensus that program spending in total must be reduced. Increasing any one area is an incredibly difficult case.

Gilt rates are now damn near 1.5% higher than they were at the numbers that brought down Truss.

Totally agree Starmer should fuck off.

However, I don’t see Russia launching an attack on NATO anytime soon. They can’t even take Ukraine.
Is that war still on-going btw? Can’t remember the last time it was mentioned on the news in the UK.

Really ?

Yes, it is still going on and at an incredibly high intensity too.

Anyway:

Haven’t read it but timing feels odd to me. Why now?

It has been frequently reported across british media over the last 12-18 months Starmer has wanted to increase spending on defence but like Reeve’s plans for tax cuts or spending on other services the money isn’t really there for a variety of factors.

There was an element of sarcasm in my question. I’m well aware it’s ongoing.
But you’ll have to search hard to find any mention of it on tv news in the UK. The middle East is where it’s at these days.

The translation of the idea of increasing defence spending to 3% of GDP by 2030 just saw an actual expression of an increase of just 0.08% for next year this week. All of the real work of increasing spending has been put off, at a time when many observers see the UK’s military capacity as decreasing in real time. The proposed increase isn’t enough to cover the backlog of RN maintenance projects, for example. So in capacity terms, a RN frigate that has been waiting for 3 years to begin a 3 year refit that sees the start delayed for another 2 years is not going to be militarily relevant in this mandate.

It only took me a couple of min to read the letter. It was a good letter. I suggest you read it.

I am aware that how the war is actually being waged, and what is happening on the frontlines, it’s not at all in the western press, as you note. It’s frustrating since it is so important, but media cycle and the “new big thing” is a phenonamon.
Today was actually a benchmark day, as such

BBC 24 has almost daily reports.

Which might be great if you have all day to sit around watching it. I’m talking more about the evening/night-time news on BBC, ITV and Channel 4.

Natives. Animals.

For fuck’s sake, mate. Have a word with yourself. This is Third Reich language.

Following a four-week trial, Harwe, an Iraqi national, was found guilty of eight counts of rape, two counts of meeting a child following sexual grooming, two counts of false imprisonment, and six counts of arranging and facilitating travel of another person with a view of exploitation.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with using the word native to describe people of a particular region.

I’m actually doing a dis-service to animals by associating them with that fucking creature. He should have been shot in the fucking street the same way they shoot rabid dogs.
